Allergic reactions of the upper respiratory tract during use of powdered latex rubber gloves have been recently associated with sensitivity to latex. We have studied the ability of cornstarch powder to bind latex proteins and evaluated allergenic properties of the bound protein. Allergenicity was determined by competitive inhibition of human anti-latex IgE binding to solid-phase latex antigen. Cornstarch extracted from powdered latex products and clean cornstarch exposed to latex protein extracts were evaluated in comparison with clean unexposed cornstarch. Both exposed cornstarch preparations inhibited specific binding of anti-latex IgE antibodies to latex proteins in a dose-response manner. Latex-exposed cornstarch diluted 50% vol/vol produced complete inhibition, whereas greater dilutions exhibited variable levels of inhibition, depending on the source of cornstarch-bound proteins, insolubilized latex proteins, and IgE antibody-containing human serum used. Cornstarch not exposed to latex had no inhibitory activity. The study demonstrates that cornstarch indeed binds allergenic latex proteins and supports the causative relationship between allergic reactions in individuals with latex sensitivity and the exposure to airborne particles from powdered latex products.

The ligand-docking behavior of hevein, the major latex protein from the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis (Euphorbiaceae), has been investigated by the unguided molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method. An oligosaccharide molecule, initially placed in an arbitrary position, was allowed to move around hevein for a prolonged simulation time, on the order of microseconds, with the expectation of spontaneous ligand docking of the oligosaccharide molecule to the binding site of hevein. In the binary solution system consisting of a hevein molecule and a chito-trisaccharide (GlcNAc) molecule, three out of the six separate simulation runs successfully reproduced the complex structure of the observed binding from.

The biosynthesis of isopentenyl diphosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl diphosphate (DMAPP), which are essential for sesquiterpenes and triterpenes, respectively, is primarily governed by the mevalonate pathway, wherein () plays a pivotal role. This study identified eight members of the FPS gene family in , designated -, through bioinformatics analysis, revealing their distribution across several chromosomes and a notable tandem gene cluster. The genes exhibited strong hydrophilic properties and key functional motifs crucial for enzyme activity.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Schisandrachinensis, a traditional functional Chinese medicine, is known for its ability to tonify the kidneys, calm the heart, and tranquilize the mind. Recent pharmacological research has demonstrated its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects.

Aim Of The Study: We had previously demonstrated that Schisandra chinensis lignans (SCL) promote microglia polarization to M2 phenotype via targeting cannabinoid receptor type-2 (CB2R) to exert antidepressant effects.

To get further insights on the micro-nanoplastic (MNP) effects on plants, the aim of this study was to evaluate the response of hydroponically cultivated Arabidopsis thaliana to the presence of differentially colored polyethylene terephthalate (PET) particles. MNP impacts on the root organ were studied at a molecular level, with a special focus on the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAS) in the regulation of gene expression after PET exposure. MNPs of transparent (Tr-PET) and blue (Bl-PET) material at environmentally realistic concentration caused a significant reduction in root length, while only Bl-PET significantly reduced rosette area.
