Spontaneous spinal extradural hematomas are rare entities, especially during pregnancy. The authors report a case of a 26 years old women who developed as Brown-Sequard syndrome during pregnancy. Background: Induction of labour (IOL) is a common obstetric intervention in the UK, affecting up to 33% of deliveries. IOL aims to achieve a vaginal delivery prior to spontaneous onset of labour to prevent harm from ongoing pregnancy complications and is known to prevent stillbirths and reduce neonatal intensive care unit admissions. However, IOL doesn't come without risk and overall, 20% of mothers having an induction will still require a caesarean section birth and in primiparous mothers this rate is even higher.

[Spontaneous cervical swelling syndrome].

Rev Med Liege

January 2025

Service de Médecine nucléaire et Imagerie.

Spontaneous cervical swelling syndrome is a rare, benign, and recurrent condition, most commonly affecting middle-aged women. Although its etiology is not fully understood, it is thought to be associated with intermittent occlusion of the thoracic duct, caused by increased pressure in the head and neck region. It occurs as an acute, limited swelling of the left supra-clavicular region and regresses, in most cases, spontaneously, in less than a week.

The role of cancer cell-released extracellular vesicles: have we become closer to cancer pain treatment?

Extracell Vesicles Circ Nucl Acids

December 2024

Department of Diagnostic and Biological Sciences, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN 55455, USA.

The effective management of cancer pain continues to be a challenge because of our limited understanding of cancer pain mechanisms and, in particular, how cancer cells interact with neurons to produce pain. In a study published in , Inyang used a mouse model of human papillomavirus (HPV1)-induced oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma to show a role for cancer cell-derived extracellular vesicles (cancer sEVs) in cancer pain. They found that inhibiting the release of sEVs reduced spontaneous and evoked pain behaviors, and that pain produced by sEVs is due to activation of TRPV1 channels.
