Serum IgG antibody levels to native and denatured bovine type II collagen were elevated in 31.5 and 21.5% sera respectively from 200 American patients with RA. The prevalence of serum antibodies to native type II collagen is significantly higher than previously found in large studies of the prevalence of this autoantibody in Britain and Japan when using the same methodology.

In this study we investigate the mechanics of type II collagen fibrils, an essential structural component in many load-bearing tissues including cartilage. Although type II collagen plays a crucial role in maintaining tissue integrity, the stress-stretch and failure response of type II collagen fibrils in tension is not established in the current mechanics literature. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted tensile tests on isolated collagen networks from articular cartilage and established a validated constitutive model for type II collagen fibril.

Background: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of long-term (10 months) volleyball training on biochemical responses in adolescent female athletes since the cumulative effects of chronic training on this population are not yet clear.
Methods: Twenty-one adolescent female volleyball players competing at the national level served as the participants. All athletes carried out volleyball training, which consisted of ball handling, specialized drills, and practical game-style exercises, including physical training in the school gymnasium.
