In this report we describe the clinical and hematologic features of 23 cases of myelodysplasia (MDS) or acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL) occurring in Down's syndrome. MDS was characterized by thrombocytopenia, abnormal megakaryocytopoiesis, megakaryoblasts (< 30%) in the marrow and abnormal karyotype, the most common of which was trisomy 8, found in 7/15 patients with MDS. Three of five patients achieved a complete remission with low dose cytosine arabinoside, vincristine and retinyl palmitate. The high cure rate and the distinctive features of the leukemic process in these cases suggest that this type of MDS and AMKL are unique to patients with Down's syndrome.

Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) may be involved in dysfunction of pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAEC) and, thus, in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) pathobiology. Dysregulated differentiation of naïve CD4+ T cells into T helper 17 (Th17) cells is likely a key factor predisposing to many autoimmune diseases. Therefore, better understanding how Th17 differentiation is regulated is essential to identify novel therapeutic targets and strategies to identify individuals at high risk of developing autoimmunity. Down syndrome (DS), a genetic condition caused by trisomy 21 (T21), manifests various neurological symptoms, including intellectual disability, early neurodegeneration, and early-onset dementia. N-glycosylation is a protein modification that plays a critical role in numerous neurobiological processes and whose dysregulation is associated with a range of neurological disorders.
