The aim of this study was to establish the influence of lipophilicity on the antibacterial activity (log 1/MIC50) of 22 fluoroquinolones and to assess the influence of their electronic, steric and topological properties on their hydrophobicity. The lipophilicity of the compounds, expressed as the chromatographic capacity factor (log k'), was determined by ion-pair reversed-phase HPLC. On the basis of the mathematical models developed, an attempt was made to confirm the mechanism of interaction of the quinolones with DNA-gyrase proposed previously.

Background: The penetration of drugs through the blood-brain barrier is one of the key pharmacokinetic aspects of centrally acting active substances and other drugs in terms of the occurrence of side effects on the central nervous system. In our research, several regression models were constructed in order to observe the connections between the active pharmaceutical ingredients' properties and their bioavailability in the CNS, presented in the form of the log BB parameter, which refers to the drug concentration on both sides of the blood-brain barrier.
Methods: Predictive models were created using the physicochemical properties of drugs, and multiple linear regression and a data mining method, i.

In this study, new monolithic poly(9-anthracenylmethyl methacrylate-co-trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) columns, referred as ANM monoliths were prepared, for the first time, and were used for the separation media for biomolecules and proteomics analysis by nano-liquid chromatography (nano-LC). Monolithic columns were prepared by in situ polymerization of 9-anthracenylmethyl methacrylate (ANM) and trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) in a fused silica capillary column of 100 µm ID. Polymerization solution was optimized in relation to monomer and porogenic solvent.

Water mint () is used in many formulations worldwide as a functional food and natural remedy to treat gastrointestinal disorders, lung diseases, and certain mental disorders such as epilepsy and depression. This study assessed the bioactivity of its infusion extract (INF) and hydroethanolic extract (HE) to highlight its health benefits. These extracts were analyzed for their chemical composition by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MSn, their antioxidant and antidiabetic properties, and their capacities to protect human erythrocytes against induced hemoglobin oxidation and lipid peroxidation.

Serious neurological disorders were associated with cadmium toxicity. Hence, this research aimed to investigate the potential neuroprotective impacts of the ethanolic extracts of Citrus aurantium unripe fruits and leaves (CAF and CAL, respectively) at doses 100 and 200 mg/kg against cadmium chloride-provoked brain dysfunction in rats for 30 consecutive days. HPLC for natural pigment content revealed that CAF implied higher contents of Chlorophyll B, while the CAL has a high yield of chlorophyll A and total carotenoid.
