Marek's disease (MD), a T cell lymphoma disease in chickens, is caused by the Marek's disease virus (MDV) found ubiquitously in the poultry industry. Genetically resistant Line 6 (L6) and susceptible Line 7 (L7) chickens have been instrumental to research on avian immune system response to MDV infection. In this study we characterized molecular signatures unique to splenic immune cell types across different genetic backgrounds 6 days after infection.

Apolipoprotein E (apoE) polymorphism is associated with different pathologies such as atherosclerosis and Alzheimer's disease. Knowledge of the three-dimensional structure of apoE and isoform-specific structural differences are prerequisites for the rational design of small molecule structure modulators that correct the detrimental effects of pathological isoforms. In this study, cross-linking mass spectrometry (XL-MS) targeting Asp, Glu and Lys residues was used to explore the intramolecular interactions in the E2, E3 and E4 isoforms of apoE.

Background: Migraine is a highly prevalent and incapacitating neurological disorder mostly characterised by recurring attacks of moderate to severe throbbing and pulsating pain on one side of the head. Objective: Heterocyclic amines (HCAs) are mutagens and carcinogens primarily generated when cooking meat at high temperatures or until well-done, and their major metabolic pathway includes hepatic N-hydroxylation via CYP1A2 followed by O-acetylation via N-acetyltransferase 2 (NAT2). NAT2 expresses a well-defined genetic polymorphism in humans resulting in rapid and slow acetylators. Recent epidemiological studies reported significant associations between dietary HCA exposure and insulin resistance and type II diabetes.
