Examples are given of observations made with field isolates of suid herpesvirus 1 (SHV-1) which indicate that intergenomic recombination is a common phenomenon associated with the virus. This was further confirmed by experimental co-infection of a pig with 2 virus strains with different, stable and easily identifiable genomic markers, followed by natural transmission to a group of contact pigs. A variety of recombinants was subsequently isolated, while none of the parental strains were re-isolated from any of the pigs. It is suggested that co-invasion of cells and recombination between viral genomes play a role in the life cycle of the virus.

Ribosomal DNA (rDNA) repeat units are organized into tandem clusters in eukaryotic cells. In mice, these clusters are located on at least eight chromosomes and show extensive variation in the number of repeats between mouse genomes. To analyze intra- and inter-genomic variation of mouse rDNA repeats, we selectively isolated 25 individual rDNA units using Transformation-Associated Recombination (TAR) cloning.

Here we address phylogenetic relationships and topological incongruence in the tribe Anthospermeae (Rubiaceae), using phylogenomic data from the mitochondrion, the nuclear ribosomal cistron, and the plastome. All three genomic compartments resolve relationships in the Anthospermeae; the tribe is monophyletic and consists of three major subclades.

Soil phage AP-16-3, a strain phylogenetically close to phage 16-3, was isolated in a mountainous region of Dagestan, belonging to the origin of cultivated plants in the Caucasus, according to Vavilov N.I. The genome of phage AP-16-3 is 61 kbp in size and contains 62 ORFs, of which 42 ORFs have homologues in the genome of phage 16-3, which was studied in the 1960s-1980s.
