The objectives were to investigate effects of various concentrations of dietary vitamin D (VD) or 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25-OH-D) on growth performance, VD status, calcium (Ca) metabolism, and tibia mineralization of starter male White Pekin ducks, and dietary requirements and relative bioavailability of these two compounds. One-day-old male White Pekin ducks (n = 624) were assigned to 13 dietary treatments, including 6 added VD concentrations (100, 200, 400, 800, 1200, and 2000 IU/kg), and 2 vitamin D sources (VD and 25-OH-D), plus a negative control (no vitamin D supplementation) for 21 days. Each group had 6 replicate pens of 8 birds per pen.

The purpose of the present study was to analyze carcass composition, physicochemical properties, muscle texture, and structure, as well as morphometry of the digestive tract and leg bone dimensions of Cherry Valley ducks (SM3 Heavy hybrid) and Orvia ducks (ST5 Heavy hybrid) after laying. A total of 32 ducks were dissected, 8 females and 8 males from each breeding set. Analysis of meat quality (breast muscle, leg muscle) in terms of color (L*, a*, b*), acidity (pH), electrical conductivity (EC), and basic chemical composition (protein, water, fat, collagen) was performed.

Body size is an important growth indicator in ducks and is a primary selection criterion for physical improvement. An excessively rapid growth rate in meat ducks can result in excessive body size, which may hinder subsequent processing and slaughter operations. However, only a few molecular markers related to body size have been studied in meat ducks.

The present study aimed to optimize the combined effect of dietary selenium (SE) and iodine (ID) on the productive and reproductive performance and antioxidant capacity of Longyuan breeding ducks. A total of 288 Longyan duck breeders aged 20 wk were randomly assigned to four groups with six replicates (n = 72 ducks/group; 12 ducks/replicate). A 2 × 2 factorial arrangement experiment was performed and included 2 supplementation levels of each SE and ID for 200 days of the experimental period.
