Partial depolymerisation of PHB by chemical means to the appearance of homologous polymers from PHB constituted of short carbon chains and oligomers which represent the first elements of this macromolecule. The chemical structure of these oligomers ranging from dimer to heptamer has been essentially deduced from their mass spectrum and then confirmed by studying their physical, chemical and biological properties.

Background: Adamantane derivatives, such as memantine (Mem) and amantadine (Ada), have distinct mechanisms and therapeutic applications. Ada is primarily utilized as an antiviral and anti-Parkinson drug without significant pro-cognitive effects, Mem is effective in various clinical conditions characterized by cognitive deficits, including Alzheimer's disease. Recent evidence highlights a neuroprotective role for Aβ monomers, suggesting that preventing their aggregation into toxic oligomers could be a promising therapeutic strategy.

The structure and reactivity of small methylaluminoxane (MAO) species (MeAlO)n(Me3Al)m (n = 1-8) have been investigated using DFT (M06-2X), MP2, and CCSD(T) calculations. This hierarchy of methods reveals that DFT artificially stabilizes structures containing 4-coordinate oxygen atoms while higher-level calculations demonstrate a clear preference for structures with 3-coordinate oxygen and 4-coordinate aluminum centers. Analysis of ionization pathways shows these neutral MAO molecules form anions through either methide or Me2Al+ abstraction, with the latter mechanism dominant for sheet structures (n = 5-8).

Five previously unreported 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) derivatives, including chinenfurfurals A () and B () as 5-HMF-citric acid hybrids and chinenfurfurals C-E (-) as 5-HMF oligomers, as well as four known analogues (-), were isolated from the fruits of a well-known Chinese herbal species . The structures of these furfural compounds were established by detailed analyses of spectroscopic data especially HRMS and NMR, and it is the first report of furfural type constituents from the title species. The anti-inflammatory property of them was further evaluated by testing their inhibition against the production of nitric oxide in lipopolysaccharide-activated murine RAW264.

Procyanidins are widely distributed in plant-derived foods, and consist of flavanol oligomers and polymers. Recently, the crown procyanidin sub-family, characterised by a unique macrocyclic structure, has been identified in grapes and wine. This study reports the development and validation of a rapid and quantitative analytical method measuring crown procyanidin concentration in red and white wines using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled with a Q-TOF mass spectrometer.

The biodegradation of synthetic polymers offers a promising solution for sustainable plastic recycling. Polyurethanes (PUR) stand out among these polymers due to their susceptibility to enzymatic hydrolysis. However, the intricate 3D structures formed by PUR chains present challenges for biodegradation studies, both computational and experimental.
