A mammalian expression vector directing the synthesis of a cytoplasmic single chain Fv version of the Y13-259 anti-Ras antibody was constructed and co-transfected into the human lymphoid cell line Jurkat together with a reporter construct containing the bacterial gene for chloramphenicol acetyl transferase under the transcriptional control of several copies of the binding site for the transcription factor NF-AT. The Ras specific antibody interferes with NF-AT activation upon direct activation of the T-cell antigen receptor, whereas activation by direct protein kinase C stimulation is less sensitive to the anti-Ras antibody. Furthermore, the observed inhibition is dependent on the ratio of antibody to reporter plasmid utilized in the transfection experiments.

The extinction of species is a major threat to the biodiversity. Allee effects are strongly linked to population extinction vulnerability. Emerging ecological evidence from numerous ecosystems reveals that the Allee effect, which is brought on by two or more processes, can work on a single species concurrently.

Neuroinflammation immediately follows the onset of ischemic stroke in the middle cerebral artery. During this process, microglial cells are activated in and recruited to the penumbra. Microglial cells can be activated into two different phenotypes: M1, which can worsen brain injury; or M2, which can aid in long-term recovery.

Persistent prey species in the Lotka-Volterra apparent competition system with a single shared predator.

We analyze the Lotka-Volterra n prey-1 predator system with no direct interspecific interaction between prey species, in which every prey species undergoes the effect of apparent competition via a single shared predator with all other prey species. We prove that the considered system necessarily has a globally asymptotically stable equilibrium, and we find the necessary and sufficient condition to determine which of feasible equilibria becomes asymptotically stable. Such an asymptotically stable equilibrium shows which prey species goes extinct or persists, and we investigate the composition of persistent prey species at the equilibrium apparent competition system.

Three bisferrocene-based bis(acylthiourea) positional isomers, namely, 1,2-bis(ferrocenylcarbonylthioureido)benzene (1), 1,3-bis(ferrocenylcarbonylthioureido)benzene (2) and 1,4-bis(ferrocenylcarbonylthioureido)benzene (3), all [Fe(CH)(CHNOS)], have been synthesized via facile nucleophilic addition reactions of 2.3 equivalents of ferrocenoyl isothiocyanate with o-, m- and p-phenylenediamine, respectively. The structures of the three new synthesized isomers were fully characterized by H NMR, C NMR, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, elemental analyses and cyclic voltammetry.

Introduction: Myeloid cells trafficking from the periphery to the central nervous system are key players in multiple sclerosis (MS) through antigen presentation, cytokine secretion and repair processes.

Methods: Combination of mass cytometry on blood cells from 60 MS patients at diagnosis and 29 healthy controls, along with single cell RNA sequencing on paired blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from 5 MS patients were used for myeloid cells detailing.

Results: Myeloid compartment study demonstrated an enrichment of a peculiar classical monocyte population in 22% of MS patients at the time of diagnosis.
