Shape preserving three-dimensional display of myocardial scintigraphic data.

Published: June 1994

A three-dimensional display has been developed which is specifically suited to the visualization of myocardial single photon emission tomographic (SPET) data. A set of radial maxima voxels, representative of the whole left ventricle uptake and shape is first extracted by cylindrical and spherical sampling of the short axis slices. A three-dimensional representation of these voxels is then obtained, with hues depicting the uptake amount and shades (i.e. intensity and saturation) depicting the shape. This technique is suitable for 201Tl and 99TCm-hexakis-2-methoxyisobutyl isonitrile (99TCm-sestamibi) myocardial images. It is proposed as an aid to interpreting myocardial SPET as it enables the physician to distinguish simultaneously the actual shape, the extent and the severity of perfusion defects on a single frame.

Highly specific amyloid and tau PET ligands for ATN classification in suspected Alzheimer's disease patients.

Ann Nucl Med

January 2025

Department of Radiological Sciences, School of Health Science, Fukushima Medical University, 10-6 Sakae, Fukushima City, Fukushima, 960-8516, Japan.

Objective: This study aims to accurately classify ATN profiles using highly specific amyloid and tau PET ligands and MRI in patients with cognitive impairment and suspected Alzheimer's disease (AD). It also aims to explore the relationship between quantified amyloid and tau deposition and cognitive function.

Methods: Twenty-seven patients (15 women and 12 men; age range: 64-81 years) were included in this study.

The exploration of pure organic ultra-long room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials has emerged as a research hotspot in recent years. Herein, a simple strategy for fabricating long-afterglow polymer aerogels with three-dimensional ordered structures and environmental monitoring capabilities is proposed. Based on the non-covalent interactions between pectin (PC) and melamine formaldehyde (MF), a composite aerogel (PCMF@phenanthrene) (PCMF@PA) doped with phosphorescent organic small molecules was constructed.

Mixed reality for preoperative planning and intraoperative assistance of surgical correction of complex congenital heart defects.

J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

January 2025

Division of Cardiology, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, ON, Canada; Center for Image Guided Innovation and Therapeutic Intervention, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, ON, Canada.

Objectives: Mixed reality (MixR) is an innovative visualization tool that presents virtual elements in a real-world environment, enabling real-time interaction between the user and the combined digital/physical reality. We aimed to explore the feasibility of MixR in enhancing preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance for the correction of various complex congenital heart defects (CHDs).

Methods: Patients underwent cardiac computed tomography or cardiac magnetic resonance and segmentation of digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) images was performed.

Phylogenetic analysis and molecular structure of NS1 proteins of porcine parvovirus 5 isolates from Mexico.

Porcine parvovirus 5 (PPV5) is an unclassified member of the family Parvoviridae with no reported pathogenicity, although it is associated with multisystemic, reproductive, and respiratory diseases. Its open reading frame 1 (ORF1) encodes non-structural protein 1 (NS1), which is predicted to have helicase activity that is essential for viral replication. This protein contains a C-motif with an invariant asparagine residue that forms the core of the enzyme's active site, in conjunction with the Walker A and B motifs.

The epithelial and mesenchymal features of colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRAC) cell lines were compared in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) cultures. In 2D cultures, the three CRAC cell lines exhibited epithelial characteristics with high E-cadherin and low vimentin levels, whereas two exhibited mesenchymal traits with opposite expression patterns. In 3D cultures using low-attachment plates, mesenchymal cells from 2D cultures showed reduced vimentin mRNA levels.
