Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

National Center for Neurological Disorders, Shanghai, Shanghai, China.

Background: Evidence supporting cardiovascular diseases could increase the risk of dementia remains fragmented. A comprehensive study to illuminate the distinctive associations across different dementia types is still lacking. This study is sought to: 1) determine the clinical validity of Framingham General Cardiovascular Risk Score (FGCRS) for dementia assessment; 2) examine the associations between cardiovascular diseases and the risk of dementia.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Family Nurse - ASL Mantova, Mantova, Italy.

Background: Prescription for inappropriate drugs can be dangerous to very old people, due to the increased risk of adverse drug reactions.

Case Report: We report the consequences of inappropriate prescriptions in a 99-year-old woman. She had a clinical history of vascular dementia, diabetes, hypothyroidism, heart failure, osteoarthritis, chronic renal failure, and hypoacusia, and was admitted to our attention for asthenia and loss of appetite.

Objective: Etrasimod is an oral, once-daily, selective sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) receptor modulator for the treatment of moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC). S1P receptor expression on cardiac cells is involved in cardiac conduction. We report cardiovascular treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) associated with S1P receptor modulators and other cardiovascular events in the etrasimod UC clinical programme.

A rare phenomenon involving ventricular separation: a case report.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

December 2024

Department of Electrocardiology, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, No.108 WansongRoad, Wenzhou, 325200, People's Republic of China.

Background: Ventricular separation is a multipart, extensive disease of the heart that hinders the electrical conduction of the cardiac system ventricular muscle, causing a bidirectional conduction block. The occurrence of ventricular separation suggests that the myocardium is in a state of severe ischemia, and the prognosis is generally poor. Herein, we present arescue case in which the extremely rare phenomenon of ventricular separation developed and was documented in realtime.

Background -Smoking is associated with arrhythmia and sudden cardiac death, but the biological mechanisms remain unclear. In electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings abnormal durations of ventricular repolarization (QT interval), atrial depolarization (P wave), and atrioventricular depolarization (PR interval and segment), predict cardiac arrhythmia and mortality. Previous analyses of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database for associations between smoking and ECG abnormalities were incomplete.
