We have investigated short- and long-term ocular side effects of psoralen plus UVA (PUVA) therapy in 82 patients who refused to wear UVA blocking sunglasses after the treatments. They had received 321.7 +/- 328.8 J/cm2 of UVA in 148.8 +/- 113.9 exposures over 2-4 years. Results were compared with findings obtained in 749 patients who shielded their eyes. They received 402.6 +/- 302.2. J/cm2 of UVA in 167.8 +/- 136.9 treatments over 2-6 years. 20 patients refusing eye sun protection developed conjunctival hyperemia and 21 patients decreased lacrimation. Among patients who adequately protected the eyes, we observed 5 cases of conjunctival hyperemia and 1 case of decreased lacrimation. Lens opacities did not develop in any patient. Adequate eye sun-protection is thus needed to avoid acute toxicity of cornea and conjunctiva but lens opacities do not appear to be a side effect of long-term PUVA-therapy.

Pharmaceutical excipients, commonly known as inactive ingredients, encompass any substance aside from the active ingredient that fulfills a distinct and vital role in a formulation. Their purpose is to enhance specific characteristics, whether associated with the performance of the formulation or aspects related to patient comfort, safety, and acceptability. Because of the limited toxicity studies provided, and the several allergic and toxic side effects that have been reported throughout the years, it is not trivial for the regulatory agencies to approve inactive ingredients for human use.

Dupilumab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-13 (IL-13) signaling and is used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in those six months or older who are uncontrolled on or cannot tolerate topical treatments. Ocular surface disease is a recognized adverse effect of dupilumab, yet few studies describe the risk factors for developing ocular adverse effects. There are no standardized recommendations for monitoring patients on this medication.

Background: The pathophysiologic mechanisms underlying early-onset myopia remain unclear; in this study, we investigate the pathogenesis by examining the interrelationships between axial length to corneal curvature radius ratio ( ) and choroidal blood flow.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 202 eyes from myopic children, categorized into 141 eyes with mild myopia, 47 eyes with moderate myopia, and 14 eyes with high myopia. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) was used to measure choroidal blood flow perfusion within a 6 mm × 6 mm area of the macular region, divided into nine subareas based on ETDRS partitioning: macular fovea, nasal side 1, superior 1, temporal side 1, inferior 1, nasal side 2, superior 2, temporal side 2, and inferior 2.
