The prevalence and evolution of foamy viruses (FVs) have become the focus of research because of the risk of new zoonotic diseases. FVs have been isolated from various mammals and exhibit long-term co-speciation with their hosts. They also appear to be mild and nonpathogenic to their hosts.

Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide. Clinical and experimental data demonstrated that circulating monocytes internalize plasma lipoproteins and become lipid-laden foamy cells in hypercholesterolemic subjects. This study was designed to identify the endocytic mechanisms responsible for foamy monocyte formation, perform functional and transcriptomic analysis of foamy and non-foamy monocytes relevant to ASCVD, and characterize specific monocyte subsets isolated from the circulation of normocholesterolemic controls and hypercholesterolemic patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes the characteristics of oral reactions to injectable soft tissue fillers, focusing on 151 patients, predominantly females averaging 54.9 years old.
  • Most reactions occurred about 20.4 months after injection, often presenting as painless nodules in the lips, with silicone and polymethylmetacrylate being the most common fillers used.
  • Key findings showed differences in reaction patterns based on the type of filler and highlighted the importance for clinicians to recognize these potential reactions when assessing asymptomatic nodules in older female patients.

Background: Treatment failure (TF) in leprosy following multidrug therapy (MDT) presents a significant challenge. The current World Health Organization (WHO) fixed-duration MDT regimen, based on lesion count, might not be adequate. Leprosy lacks clear-cut objective cure criteria, and the predictive value of post-MDT histopathological findings remains uncertain.
