Millions of men and women suffer from alopecia, especially androgenic alopecia (AGA), which is considered the most common form of hair loss. The available treatments for hair loss include multiple approaches, with the most popular being synthetic drugs including minoxidil and finasteride, in addition to natural products. However, synthetic drugs have shown many undesirable side effects, on the contrary, the specifications of the commonly used natural drugs have not been reported in most of the previous studies, despite the high market preference for them.

Memory updating in dreams.

Sleep Adv

December 2024

Department of Psychology and Program in Neuroscience, Furman University, Greenville, SC, USA.

Robert Stickgold's research was among the earliest to rigorously quantify the effect of learning on dream content. As a result, we learned that dreaming is influenced by the activation of newly formed memory traces in the sleeping brain. Exactly how this happens is an ongoing area of investigation.

Recent experimental studies in the awake brain have identified a rule for synaptic plasticity that is instrumental for the instantaneous creation of memory traces in area CA1 of the mammalian brain: Behavioral Time scale Synaptic Plasticity. This one-shot learning rule differs in five essential aspects from previously considered plasticity mechanisms. We introduce a transparent model for the core function of this learning rule and establish a theory that enables a principled understanding of the system of memory traces that it creates.

Iron is one of the indispensable trace elements in living organisms. However, excessive iron deposition in organisms is prone to induce dysfunction of the liver and other vital organs. The present study aimed to investigate the mechanism how aquatic high iron affects iron transport and induces hepatic injury in zebrafish.

Potential Health Risks from Heavy Metal in Green Mussels (Perna Viridis) From the Southeastern Part of the Bay of Bengal.

Biol Trace Elem Res

January 2025

Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries, University of Chittagong, Chittagong, 4331, Bangladesh.

The Southeastern part of the Bay of Bengal is increasingly threatened by heavy metal pollution, posing significant risks to both aquatic life and human health. In this context, the contamination levels of six heavy metals-Cadmium (Cd), Lead (Pb), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Manganese (Mn), and Iron (Fe)-were assessed in the soft tissues of Green mussels (Perna viridis) from five key sites: Matamuhuri, Moheshkhali, Bakhkhali, Naf, and St. Martin.
