We present two techniques for determining the concentration and 13C enrichment of acetate in biological fluids. After the sample has been spiked with an internal standard of [2,2,2,2H3,1-13C]acetate, acetate is first enzymatically converted to acetyl-coenzyme A, which is chemically converted to acetylglycine. The latter is analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, either as a methyl ester by positive chemical ionization or as a pentafluorobenzyl ester by negative chemical ionization. The mole percentage enrichment of tissue acetyl-CoA can also be assayed after conversion to acetylglycine pentafluorobenzyl ester.

A new series of quinoline Schiff-bases was designed, synthesized, and characterized using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and HRMS analysis. Further, all the compounds were screened for their antitubercular, antibacterial, and antifungal activity, and the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined. Among all, compound 7f displayed a significantly potent broad-spectrum antitubercular and antimicrobial activity against most of the tested strains of bacteria and fungi, with MIC values in the range of 1.

A novel synthesis of a nanometric MCM-41 from biogenic silica obtained from rice husk is here presented. CTABr and Pluronic F127 surfactants were employed as templating agents to promote the formation of a long-range ordered 2D-hexagonal structure with cylindrical pores and to limit the particle growth at the nanoscale level thus resulting in a material with uniform particle size of 20-30 nm. The physico-chemical properties of this sample (RH-nanoMCM) were investigated through a multi-technique approach, including PXRD, Si MAS NMR, TEM, -potential and N physisorption analysis at 77 K.
