Published: August 1994

Phosphorus is a major component of proteins, phospholipids, and nucleotides. The increased uptake of phosphorus by cells during erythropoiesis can result in severe hypophosphatemia. A case of severe hypophosphatemia due to accelerated erythropoiesis in response to Cefotetan-induced hemolytic anemia is described. The hypophosphatemia seen during hemolysis may be the result, rather than the cause, of the hemolysis.

Denosumab, an anti-RANKL antibody, induces bone metabolism to a low-turnover bone status by arresting osteoclast activity. Frequent adverse events include infusion reactions, fever and hypocalcaemia but not hypophosphataemia. We report a case of severe hypophosphataemia associated with secondary hyperparathyroidism following denosumab administration in a young boy with recurrent osteosarcoma who was successfully treated with evocalcet.

Anorexia nervosa (AN) is an eating disorder characterized by restriction of energy intake leading to a significantly low body weight, and intense fear of gaining weight. Severe electrolyte changes such as hypokalemia and hypophosphatemia; and alterations in water metabolism such as hyponatremia and edema, can occur in patients with AN. Hypokalemia and chronic volume depletion may lead to acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Introduction: Haemophilia A is an X-linked bleeding disorder resulting from a deficiency of factor VIII (FVIII). To date, multiple gene therapies have entered clinical trials with the goal of providing durable haemostatic protection from a single dose. TAK 754 (BAX 888) is an investigational AAV8-based gene therapy containing a FVIII transgene.

Background: Hereditary hypophosphatemia (HH), is a rare condition related to decreased renal tubular phosphate reabsorption. Although X-linked hypophosphatemia or PHEX gene variant is the most frequent cause of HH, recent advances in next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques enable the identification of genetic etiologies as a whole.

Objective: To identify genetic causes of HH using various genetic testing methods and to compare clinical features between FGF23-dependent and FGF23-independent HH groups.
