Article Abstract

In addition to HLA-B27, other genetic factors are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Because of the localization, in the proximity of the HLA-B locus, and the biological activities of TNF-alpha, we investigated the association between AS and a single base polymorphism located at position -308 of the TNF-alpha gene. An allele-specific polymerase chain reaction was developed to monitor this polymorphism. The frequency of the TNF-alpha alleles was determined in 66 AS patients and 37 healthy controls. The TNF-alpha allele frequency was not significantly different between AS patients and controls.

This paper presents a synthetic dataset of labeled game situations in recordings of federated handball and basketball matches played in Galicia, Spain. The dataset consists of synthetic data generated from real video frames, including 308,805 labeled handball frames and 56,578 labeled basketball frames extracted from 2105 handball and 383 basketball 5-s video clips. Experts manually labeled the video clips based on the respective sports, while the individual frames were automatically labeled using computer vision and machine learning techniques.

Background: In Myanmar, progress towards malaria elimination has stagnated in some areas requiring deployment of new tools and approaches to accelerate malaria elimination. While there is evidence that networks of community-based malaria workers and insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) can reduce malaria transmission in a variety of settings, evidence for the effectiveness of other interventions, such as topical repellents, is limited. Since malaria transmission in Myanmar occurs outdoors, mainly among forest-goers, this study tested the effectiveness of topical repellents in combination with supplemental ITN distribution and strengthened networks of malaria workers.
