Quantum Thermodynamic Derivation of the Energy Resolution Limit in Magnetometry.

Phys Rev Lett

December 2024

University of Crete, Department of Physics, Heraklion 70013, Greece.

It was recently demonstrated that a multitude of realizations of several magnetic sensing technologies satisfy the energy resolution limit, which connects a quantity composed by the variance of the magnetic field estimate, the sensor volume and the measurement time, and having units of action, with ℏ. A first-principles derivation of this limit is still elusive. We here present such a derivation based on quantum thermodynamic arguments.

The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company Effect on Urogynecologic Drugs.

Urogynecology (Phila)

January 2025

From the Department of Urology, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Winston-Salem, NC.

Importance: The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company (ie, Cost Plus Drugs) is a service that makes generic drugs affordable. Cortese et al recently published the top 9 most commonly used oral medications in treatment of urologic conditions and showed that Cost Plus Drugs would have provided an estimated $1.29 billion reduction in 2020 costs if they replaced the Medicare prices.

Soft Wireless Passive Chipless Sensors for Biological Applications: A Review.

Biosensors (Basel)

December 2024

School of Electrical and Automation Engineering, East China Jiaotong University, Nanchang 330013, China.

Soft wireless passive sensors have been applied in biological, engineering, and other fields due to their advantages in powerless supply and remote data transmission. External information is obtained by soft wireless passive sensors via the external coils based on electromagnetic induction. The purpose of this review paper is to outline the biological applications of soft wireless passive chipless sensors and provide a classification of wireless passive sensors and an overall explanation of the main work.

Magnetocaloric Effect for a -Clock-Type System.

Entropy (Basel)

December 2024

Departamento de Física, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Av. España 1680, Valparaíso 2390123, Chile.

In this work, we study the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) in a working substance corresponding to a square lattice of spins with possible orientations, known as the "-state clock model". When the -state clock model has Q≥5 possible configurations, it presents the famous Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase associated with vortex states. We calculate the thermodynamic quantities using Monte Carlo simulations for even numbers, ranging from Q=2 to Q=8 spin orientations per site in a lattice.

Aims: To establish the feasibility of using ecological momentary assessment (EMA) to estimate total quantities of Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) used across different forms of cannabis, and to assess the predictive validity of THC estimates for predicting acute cannabis-related consequences.

Design: 14-day EMA using a smartphone application to assess cannabis use in real time.

Setting: Canada.
