Phylogenetic analysis and homology modelling of a new Cry8A crystal protein expressed in a sporulating soil bacterium.

J Struct Biol

January 2025

Postgraduate Program in Industrial Biotechnology, Tiradentes University, Aracaju, Sergipe, Brazil; Department of Morphology, Federal University of Sergipe, São Cristóvão, Sergipe, Brazil. Electronic address:

Cry proteins, commonly found in gram-positive soil bacteria, are used worldwide as aerial sprays or in transgenic plants for controlling crop pest populations and as insect vectors. Via PCR analysis, a spore producing soil isolate (BV5) was speculated to encode a Cry gene. Partial nucleotide sequence of the amplified PCR fragment showed homology with the Cry8 genes present in GenBank.

Unveiling soil-borne antibiotic resistome and their associated risks: A comparative study of antibiotic and non-antibiotic pharmaceutical factories.

Key Laboratory of Recycling and Eco-Treatment of Waste Biomass of Zhejiang Province, School of Environmental and Natural Resource, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310023, China.

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) are extensively documented within antibiotic pharmaceutical factories. Notably, non-antibiotic pharmaceuticals also represent a significant portion of the pharmaceuticals market. However, the comparative analyses of soil-borne ARG profiles and associated risks in different categories of pharmaceutical factories remain limited.

Computational insights into the aggregation mechanism of human calcitonin.

School of Physical Science and Technology, Ningbo University, Ningbo 315211, China; Department of Physics and Astronomy, Clemson University, Clemson, SC 29634, United States. Electronic address:

Human calcitonin (hCT) is a peptide hormone that regulates calcium homeostasis, but its abnormal aggregation can disrupt physiological functions and increase the risk of medullary thyroid carcinoma. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying hCT aggregation, we investigated the self-assembly dynamics of hCT segments (hCT, hCT, and hCT) and the folding and dimerization of full-length hCT through microsecond atomistic discrete molecular dynamics (DMD) simulations. Our results revealed that hCT and hCT predominantly existed as isolated monomers with transient small-sized oligomers, indicating weak aggregation tendencies.

The longest oligos that can be chemically synthesized are considered to be 200-mers. Here, we report direct synthesis of an 800-mer green fluorescent protein gene and a 1728-mer 29 DNA polymerase gene on an automated synthesizer. Key innovations that enabled this breakthrough include conducting the synthesis on a smooth surface rather than within the pores of traditional supports, and the use of the powerful catching-by-polymerization (CBP) method for isolating the full-length oligos from a complex mixture.

Detection and analysis of enzootic nasal tumor virus 2 in China.

J Vet Diagn Invest

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Animal Disease Control and Prevention, Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Lanzhou, China.

Enzootic nasal tumor virus 2 (ENTV2), the etiologic agent of enzootic nasal adenocarcinoma (ENA) in goats, is highly prevalent in China and causes significant economic losses to the goat industry. Here we describe the occurrence of ENA on a Dazu black goat farm in Chongqing City. At autopsy, nasal cavity masses were observed within the nose of an affected goat; histologically, the tumor was a nasal adenocarcinoma.
