Babesia caballi cultures were cryopreserved with a solution of 10% (w/v) polyvinylpyrrolidone 40 as cryoprotectant. Samples were cooled at rates of 1, 10, 30 and 100 degrees C min-1 using a programmable freezer. Additionally, a styrofoam box designed to cool samples at an approximate rate of 10 degrees C min-1 when placed in a -80 degrees C freezer was used. Samples were stored in liquid nitrogen, thawed rapidly and inoculated into cultures. Although, a high loss of infectivity was observed after cryopreservation, cultures could be initiated reliably from cryo-stabilates frozen at a rate of 10 and 30 degrees C min-1 or frozen with the styrofoam box.

Heterogeneity engineering provides an effective route to manipulate the chemical and physical properties of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) but is still under development for their single-crystal form. Here, we report the strategy based on a combination of the template-assisted modulated synthesis with a one-pot crystallization-reduction method to directly construct ordered macro-microporous single crystals of an amine-linked three-dimensional (3D) COF (OM-COF-300-SR). In this strategy, the colloidal crystal-templating synthesis not only assists the formation of ordered macropores but also greatly facilitates the in situ conversion of linkages (from imine to amine) in the COF-300 single crystals.

Objective: This exploratory study investigates if neurofilament light chain (NfL) is excreted in the urine and whether this depends on plasma NfL (pNfL) levels and kidney function in terms of eGFR and U-albumin-creatinine ratio (uACR).
Methods: Using a computer algorithm, we identified excess urine and plasma from routine testing of uACR and eGFR in patients 45-50 years old. Up to 17 paired urine-plasma samples in each of six categories of kidney function defined by uACR and eGFR were analysed for NfL, and the urinary NfL-creatinine ratio (uNCR) was calculated to correct for urine dilution.

Rationale & Objective: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) improve cardiac and kidney outcomes in patients with diabetes; however their efficacy in individuals with reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is uncertain. This study evaluated the effects of GLP-1RAs on kidney and cardiovascular (CV) outcomes in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Study Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reported through May 25, 2024.

Thermal characteristics of dried sugar beet pulp, leaves and leaf fractions obtained after extraction: fibrous leaf pulp and fibre rich leaf fraction, were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetry. The sugar beet samples showed a similar thermal behaviour associated with a similar composition. Two endotherms are found on the differential scanning calorimetry curves.

Oxidative potential (OP) is increasingly recognized as a more health-relevant metric than particulate matter (PM) mass concentration because of its response to varying chemical compositions. Given the limited research on the OP of complex combustion aerosols, the effects of aging processes on their OP remain underexplored. We used online instruments to track the evolution of OP [via dithiothreitol (DTT) assays] during the aging of wood burning and coal combustion emissions by hydroxyl-radical-driven photooxidation and dark ozonolysis.
