Administration of alloxan to rats which developed hypothalamic adiposity damaged the pancreatic beta-cells and reduced the insulin secretion, thus arresting further weight gain despite some excess in food ingestion. A conclusion was drawn that in injury of the ventro-medial nuclei of the hypothalamus the most significant mechanism of obesity development was insulin hypersecretion induced by this action.

Background: Although most pituitary tumors are benign, functioning pituitary tumors are dangerous as they produce and deteriorate the endocrine hormones. Prolactinomas are one of these tumors that arise from lactotroph cells of the anterior pituitary, and they're about 40% of all pituitary adenomas. They secrete high levels of prolactin, which are normally inhibited by dopamine.

Unveiling the endocrine connections of NAFLD: evidence from a comprehensive mendelian randomization study.

Biomed Eng Lett

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang, 330006 China.

Background: NAFLD is gaining recognition as a complex, multifactorial condition with suspected associations with endocrine disorders. This investigation employed MR analysis to explore the potential causality linking NAFLD to a spectrum of endocrine diseases, encompassing T1D, T2D, obesity, graves' disease, and acromegaly.

Methods: Our methodology leveraged a stringent IV selection process, adhering to the STROBE-MR guidelines.

HnRNPM modulates alternative splicing in germ cells by recruiting PTBP1.

Reprod Biol Endocrinol

January 2025

Department of Urology, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, China.

Background: Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein M (HnRNPM) is a key splicing factor involved in various biological processes, including the epithelial‒mesenchymal transition and cancer development. Alternative splicing is widely involved in the process of spermatogenesis. However, the function of hnRNPM as a splicing factor during spermatogenesis remains unknown.
