Hyperbaric oxygen therapy and corticosteroids as combined treatment for acute acoustic trauma.

Eur Arch Otorhinolaryngol

January 2025

Motion Sickness and Human Performance Laboratory, The Israel Naval Medical Institute, IDF Medical Corps, Haifa, Israel.

Purpose: Acute acoustic trauma (AAT) is a sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) due to exposure to high intensity impulse noise. There are no acceptable treatment guidelines, although several studies showed steroids could be effective in restoring hearing levels. A recent report suggested that steroids combined with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) are a superior regiment for AAT.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy as a Renewed Hope for Ischemic Craniomaxillofacial Diseases.

Healthcare (Basel)

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

Although the advancements in craniomaxillofacial surgery have been significant, ischemic craniomaxillofacial diseases remain challenging to treat due to insufficient blood supply. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has emerged as a promising adjunctive treatment, exhibiting the potential to promote angiogenesis, exert anti-inflammatory effects, enhance bone regeneration, and possess antibacterial properties. Numerous studies have demonstrated its efficacy in stimulating healing processes, particularly in cases such as medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, osteoradionecrosis, chronic jaw osteomyelitis, and refractory wounds.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of severe gastric laceration with active bleeding: A case report.

World J Gastrointest Endosc

January 2025

Department of Gastroenterology, Shenzhen People's Hospital (Jinan University of Second Clinical Medical Sciences), Shenzhen 518020, Guangdong Province, China.

Background: Endoscopic therapy is the primary approach for treating Mallory-Weiss syndrome, particularly under conditions of mucosal protection and gastric acid suppression. However, for a subset of patients who cannot undergo endoscopic intervention or for whom such treatment proves ineffective, alternative measures like arterial embolization or surgical intervention may be required. While hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been applied across a range of medical conditions, its application in managing hemorrhage due to gastric tears remains undocumented.

Background Due to its affordability and ease of application, the subarachnoid block is the most frequently used method for lower abdominal procedures. Levobupivacaine has an onset of sensory and motor blockade comparable to that of bupivacaine and prolongs the duration of analgesia while facilitating quick recovery from motor block. Fentanyl and dexmedetomidine, when used as additives to intrathecal local anesthetic, can extend the duration of sensory and motor blockade and enhance postoperative analgesia.
