AI Article Synopsis

  • Corneal microperforations can lead to astigmatism because they alter how light is refracted through the eye.
  • To address this problem, specific incisions called "flag" or tangential incisions are made on the opposite meridian of the eye.
  • These incisions help balance the refractive effect caused by the perforations, improving vision.

Article Abstract

Corneal microperforations induce a corneal astigmatism since refractive effect is increased on the perforated meridian. To counteract this induced refractive error, we performed "flag" or tangenital incisions on the perpendicular meridian.

The lesser-banded hornet () is a prevalent species in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, including Malaysia. Its stings can result in local reactions, severe anaphylactic shock, and even death. We report a rare case of corneal microperforation and endophthalmitis following an ocular hornet injury.

We retrospectively examined corneal refractive power in three patients who had been followed up for more than 20 years after radial keratotomy (RK) with microperforations (MPs). All patients underwent RK in both eyes and were referred to our clinic because of postoperative decreased vision. MP was observed in five of the six eyes at the initial visit.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and penetrating keratoplasty (PK) procedures in keratoconic eyes with a previous hydrops-related corneal scar.

Methods: In this retrospective study, the medical records of patients who had hydrops-related corneal scarring and underwent keratoplasty surgery were reviewed. Patients treated with DALK were classified as group 1, and patients treated with PK as group 2.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe a case of spontaneous Descemet layer dissection without pneumodissection in femtosecond laser-assisted mushroom-type deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty.

Methods: This study is a case report.

Results: A 46-year-old woman diagnosed with reticular dystrophy underwent, in her left eye, mushroom configuration femtosecond laser-assisted DALK (F-DALK).

Purpose: To describe a modified deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) technique to rescue failed penetrating keratoplasty (PK) grafts and report its results.

Patients And Methods: Retrospective, case-series analysis of patients who underwent modified DALK to rescue failed corneal grafts after PK was included. Every patient had corneal graft failure (GF) diagnosis due to anterior corneal (epithelium, Bowman's, and stroma layers) or refraction disorders uncorrectable with conservative management.
