Disappearance rate of glycosylated and non-glycosylated chicken growth hormone: influence on biological activity.

Published: July 1994

The disappearance rates for glycosylated (GcGH) and non-glycosylated chicken growth hormone (NGcGH) were compared following their intravenous injection into anaesthetized adult laying hens. The metabolic clearance rate of GcGH was about 20% lower (P = 0.13) compared to NGcGH. Similarly, there was a tendency towards a longer half-life for GcGH. No major physiological significance could be attributed to the glycosylation state of the preparations as far as their effects on circulating insulin-like growth factor I and iodohormone levels were concerned.

Molecular form identification of anterior pituitary gland-secreted prolactin in chicken.

Endocrine changes during bird reproduction are well documented. Prolactin (PRL) exhibits a strong relationship between incubation and broody behavior. The molecular forms of PRL in the anterior pituitary gland during the reproductive cycle have already been previously identified but not those in the secreted form.

Difference of onset of increase of PRL content in the anterior pituitary gland and plasma PRL concentration during the late stage of chicken embryogenesis is well known. To investigate the disagreement, changes in PRL content and PRL mRNA levels, and the effects of vasoactive intestinal polypeptides (VIP) on PRL release and PRL mRNA expression were examined using western blot analysis and real-time PCR quantification. Changes in SPRL content were strongly correlated with PRL mRNA levels.

Keratinolytic Properties of Promising for Biodegradation.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

October 2022

Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Biology, Lomonosov Moscow State University, 119991 Moscow, Russia.

The high demand for keratinolytic enzymes and the modest presentation of fungal keratinase diversity studies in scientific sources cause a significant interest in identifying new fungal strains of keratinase producers, isolating new enzymes and studying their properties. Four out of the 32 cultures showed a promising target activity on protein-containing agar plates- A6, VKPM F-1593, 247, and 1779. The highest values of keratinolytic activity were demonstrated by extracellular proteins synthesized by VKPM F-1593 cultivated under submerged conditions on a medium containing milled chicken feathers.

Electrophoresis is one of the major techniques to analyze macromolecular structure and interaction. Its capability depends on the sensitivity and specificity of the staining methods. We have here examined silver staining of proteins and nucleic acids separated by agarose native gel electrophoresis.

Campylobacter jejuni is a prevalent gastrointestinal pathogen associated with increasing rates of antimicrobial resistance development. It was also the first bacterium demonstrated to possess a general N-linked protein glycosylation pathway capable of modifying > 80 different proteins, including the primary Campylobacter multidrug efflux pump, CmeABC. Here we demonstrate that N-glycosylation is necessary for the function of the efflux pump and may, in part, explain the evolutionary pressure to maintain this protein modification system.
