Article Abstract

Needling triggers adaptive mechanisms, this feature determining a broad range of effects directed towards correction of disturbances in the homeostatic systems of the body. At present peripheral and central levels of response to needling are recognized. In a review of the published literature mechanisms are discussed of analgetic and antipyretic effects of acupuncture based on the latest findings in the field of neurochemistry.

Acetaminophen is generally regarded as a safe antipyretic and analgetic agent and is widely used in cases of pregnancy. However, acetaminophen is also one of the most frequently reported medications in cases of drug overdose. On the other hand, in the few instances described in the literature, where normal doses of acetaminophen administered during pregnancy may have had a fatal outcome, evidence existed pointing to a history of liver disease.

Metamizole, or dipyrone, is a frequently prescribed analgetic drug that can cause drug-induced liver injury (DILI). Still, there are only a few metamizole-associated DILI cases (n = 61, including our study) described in the literature. So far liver transplantation has been reported in 6 patients with metamizole-induced acute liver failure.

Objectives: The aim of this prospective, randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical study was to evaluate the analgesic effect of ibuprofen versus diclofenac plus orphenadrine on postoperative pain in orthognathic surgery.

Material And Methods: Patients who underwent orthognathic surgery were randomized into two groups to receive intravenously either 600 mg of ibuprofen (I-group) or 75 mg diclofenac plus 30 mg orphenadrine (D-group), both of which were given twice daily. Additionally, both groups were given metamizole 500 mg.

The objectives of this study were to assess the effects of a single transdermal administration of flunixin meglumine (FM) in early postpartum Holstein Friesian dairy cows on serum concentrations of inflammatory and metabolic markers, uterine health, and indicators of pain. The hypothesis was that the anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgetic effects of the pharmaceutic agent would reduce systemic inflammation, resulting in improved metabolic and inflammatory profile, diminished incidence of metritis, and reduced expression of pain. A total of 500 cows (153 primiparous, 347 multiparous) from 3 different commercial dairy farms in the northeast of Germany were included in a randomized controlled clinical trial.
