Purpose: To assess pituitary vascularization in children with hypopituitarism, central diabetes insipidus (DI), or Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

Materials And Methods: Dynamic MR images were obtained through the pituitary stalk after injection of gadopentetate dimeglumine in 21 patients (11 boys and 10 girls, aged 4-17 years) and 10 age-matched control subjects.

Results: Initial enhancement of the posterior pituitary lobe occurred simultaneously with that of the straight sinus in all subjects except four patients with central DI and a thick stalk. Enhancement of the entire anterior pituitary lobe was statistically significantly prolonged (P < .005) in the four patients with delayed initial posterior pituitary lobe enhancement.

Conclusion: Fast-framing dynamic MR imaging provides new information on the blood supply of the hypothalamic pituitary area in normal and abnormal pituitary glands. Enhancement times exceeding 20 seconds for the posterior pituitary lobe and 30 seconds for the anterior pituitary lobe may suggest abnormal vascularization in the hypophyseal arteries and portal system.

Venous vascular malformations of the parotid gland are very rare vascular tumors, especially among adults. This case report discusses the presentation and challenges of diagnosing a venous vascular malformation of the parotid gland in a patient with previous oncologic history. Our patient is a 45-year-old female with a history of breast cancer, meningioma, and secreting pituitary adenoma who presented with a malformation on magnetic resonance imaging, incidentally demonstrating a T2 intense mass in the superficial lobe of the right parotid gland.

Altered degree centrality and functional connectivity in girls with central precocious puberty.

Brain Imaging Behav

November 2024

Department of Radiology, Medical Imaging Center, The Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University, Yangzhou University, 368 Hanjiang Middle Road, Yangzhou, 225001, China.

Girls who suffer from central precocious puberty (CPP) are at risk of experiencing detrimental psychological and behavioural consequences, along with impaired brain development. However, the mechanism by which puberty hormones affect patients with CPP remains unclear. This study aimed to use degree centrality (DC) analysis to explore the impact of premature activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis on brain functional development in girls with CPP.

Article Synopsis
  • A 71-year-old man with symptoms like headaches and vision problems was diagnosed with a pituitary fossa lesion and thyroid cancer that had metastasized to his brain.
  • Imaging tests revealed a significant tumor affecting multiple areas, and a biopsy confirmed the presence of metastatic papillary adenocarcinoma.
  • The study includes a literature review of similar cases to understand the clinical features, treatment, and outcomes related to thyroid cancer spreading to the pituitary gland.

Article Synopsis
  • Cushing's syndrome (CS) has significant neurocognitive and psychiatric impacts that reduce quality of life, prompting a systematic review of affected patients compared to healthy controls and those with non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPA).
  • The study analyzed 40 eligible research papers, identifying 2603 participants, 45.2% of whom had Cushing's disease (CD), with a focus on their psychiatric symptoms and cognitive performance before and after surgical treatment.
  • Findings indicate that higher baseline cortisol levels in patients with CS correlate with worse cognitive function, even post-surgery, and prolonged periods of uncontrolled CS may lead to persistent cognitive challenges.

Article Synopsis
  • * Exercise therapy has been shown to reduce depressive symptoms, potentially by influencing microglial activity, which plays a role in inflammation and brain function related to depression.
  • * Further research is needed to explore how various exercise routines specifically affect microglia and determine which type of exercise is most effective for treating depression.
