The State of Uttarakhand, located in the Himalayan region of North India, suffered one of the worst flash floods on June 16, 2013 where 5700 were presumed dead or missing. Since then, the region has suffered two other major flooding events in 2021 and 2023. As a diverse and complex food matrix, the animal food microbiota and repertoire of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes remain to be better understood. In this study, 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and shotgun metagenomics were applied to three types of animal food samples (cattle feed, dry dog food, and poultry feed). ZymoBIOMICS mock microbial community was used for workflow optimization including DNA extraction kits and bead-beating conditions.

Background: Candidate biomarkers to improve venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk prediction in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM) undergoing anti-myeloma therapy include tissue factor-bearing microvesicles (MV-TF), procoagulant phospholipids (procoag-PPL), and D-dimer.
Objective: We aimed to determine the levels of MV-TF, procoag-PPL, and D-dimer at baseline and during initial anti-myeloma therapy and their association with the risk of VTE.
Methods: This prospective, longitudinal, observational study included 71 patients with newly diagnosed MM who were eligible for anti-myeloma therapy.

Purpose: We aimed to analyze adolescent and young adults' (AYAs) perspectives on using sexually transmitted infection (STI) self-collection kits to help guide the provision and implementation of accessible and confidential reproductive health-care services for those who experience the burden of STIs and STI-related morbidity.
Methods: We utilized MyVoice, a nationwide text message survey of AYAs, to pose 6 open-ended questions on their perceptions and use of STI self-collection kits. Two independent reviewers used inductive content analysis to develop a codebook and analyze responses, and a third settled any coding discrepancies through discussion to reach consensus.

Microbiome research has the potential to provide valuable information regarding the complex relationship between microbial communities and the human body. To help facilitate the translation of this potentially revolutionary research to clinical medicine, common guidelines and best practices are necessary. These guidelines should be based on the key findings of recent research in the field and address the primary areas of discrepancy in the previously published literature.
