Background/objectives: Chronic gut dysbiosis due to a high-fat diet (HFD) instigates cardiac remodeling and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), in particular, kidney/volume-dependent HFpEF. Studies report that although mitochondrial ATP citrate lyase (ACLY) supports cardiac function, it decreases more in human HFpEF than HFrEF. Interestingly, ACLY synthesizes lipids and creates hyperlipidemia.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) have been associated with a higher risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) development and chronic colonic inflammation seems to have a critical role in the pathogenesis of CRC in patients suffering from IBD. In respect to that, surveillance colonoscopy at regular intervals is recommended in patients with colitis. This review aims to explore the chemopreventive potential of a range of agents, including mesalazine, thiopurines, anti-TNF agents, statins, ursodeoxycholic acid, aspirin, folic acid, and nutraceuticals.

Cancer patients receiving non-endocrine therapies are at risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation (HBVr). Guidelines recommend HBV screening prior to treatment. The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Center implemented a screening pilot for all patients receiving FOLFOX-based regimens between January and April 2023.

Hyperglycemia and bacterial colonization in diabetic wounds aberrantly activate Nod-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3) in macrophages, resulting in extensive inflammatory infiltration and impaired wound healing. Targeted suppression of the NLRP3 inflammasome shows promise in reducing macrophage inflammatory disruptions. However, challenges such as drug off-target effects and degradation via lysosomal capture remain during treatment.

The potential impact of one-carbon metabolism (OCM)-related B vitamins (vitamin B, B, B, and folate) on colorectal cancer survival warrants investigation but research is sparse. This cohort study examined the association between the prediagnostic dietary intakes of OCM-related B vitamins and colorectal cancer survival. A total of 2799 colorectal cancer patients from the Guangdong Colorectal Cancer Cohort, enrolled at baseline in 2010, were followed for mortality outcomes through 2023.
