A 3 years old patient receiving chemotherapy for acute-lymphoblastic leukemia according to the ALL-BFM 90-treatment protocol developed thrombosis of the vena axillaris. Without removing the central venous catheter located at the site of thrombosis it was possible to lyse the thrombus by the systemic application of recombinant human tissue-type plasminogen activator (rt-PA). The method is recommended for the treatment of thrombotic occlusions in children.

Mathematical modeling identifies LAG3 and HAVCR2 as biomarkers of T cell exhaustion in melanoma.

Cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) control tumors via lysis of antigen-presenting targets or through secretion of cytokines such as interferon-γ (IFNG), which inhibit tumor cell proliferation. Improved understanding of CTL interactions within solid tumors will aid the development of immunotherapeutic strategies against cancer. In this study, we take a systems biology approach to compare the importance of cytolytic versus IFNG-mediated cytostatic effects in a murine melanoma model (B16F10) and to dissect the contribution of immune checkpoints HAVCR2, LAG3, and PDCD1/CD274 to CTL exhaustion.

The anticancer properties of quinolones is a topic of interest among researchers in the scientific world. Because these compounds do not cause side effects, unlike the commonly used cytostatics, they are considered a promising source of new anticancer drugs. In this work, we designed a brief synthetic pathway and obtained a series of novel 8-phenyltetrahydroquinolinone derivatives functionalized with benzyl-type moieties at position 3.

Effects of Wild Yam Root () Extract on the Gene Expression Profile of Triple-negative Breast Cancer Cells.

Background/aim: Wild yam extract [Dioscorea villosa, (WYE)] is consistently lethal at low ICs across diverse cancer-lines in vitro. Unlike traditional anti-cancer botanicals, WYE contains detergent saponins which reduce oil-water interfacial tensions causing disintegration of lipid membranes and causing cell lysis, creating an interfering variable. Here, we evaluate WYE at sub-lethal concentrations in MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells.

New topical gel formulations based on sodium alginate and hyaluronic acid containing AS1411 aptamer-functionalized polymeric nanocapsules loaded with an antitumoral drug (5-Fluorouracil) were designed as an innovative approach for the skin cancer treatment. Several important analyses were used to characterize these obtained topical gel formulations, namely: rheological tests, permeation assays across Strat-M® artificial membrane, ex-vivo permeation assays across chicken skin membrane, haemolysis tests, skin irritation tests, in vitro cytotoxicity assay on human basal carcinoma cells and in vivo tests. Rheological tests revealed that apparent viscosity decreases with the increase of the shear rate, for analyzed samples, which demonstrates a shear thinning behavior.

Aim of the study- improving the methods of prevention and hygiene of the oral mucosa of dental patients receiving high-dose toxic chemotherapy. 55 patients aged from 30 to 65 years of oncological profile with a combined dental pathology were taken for clinical observation. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to the applied methods of oral hygiene: in group 1, a standard hygienic technique was used; group 2 additionally used the hygiene and prophylactic agent "CITO-STOP", adapted for patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy.
