KCl Nanoparticles as Potential Inducer of Immunogenic Cell Death for Cancer Immunotherapy.

ACS Appl Bio Mater

June 2023

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, College of Medicine, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu 610031, P. R. China.

Immunogenic cell death (ICD) is a promising cancer immunotherapy by inducing antigen-presenting cell maturation. Many inorganic nanomodulators have been developed for cancer therapy via ion overload, and their ICD-inducing properties have also been explored for immunotherapy. Here, we report a potassium chloride nanoparticle (PCNP)-loaded poly(lactic--glycolic acid) nanoparticle coated with cancer cell membrane (PC@P-CCM) for cancer therapy.

(5') 5',8-Cyclo-2'-Deoxyadenosine Cannot Stop BER. Clustered DNA Lesion Studies.

Int J Mol Sci

May 2021

DNA Damage Laboratory of Food Science Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical University of Lodz, ul. Muszynskiego 1, 90-151 Lodz, Poland.

As a result of external and endocellular physical-chemical factors, every day approximately ~10 DNA lesions might be formed in each human cell. During evolution, living organisms have developed numerous repair systems, of which Base Excision Repair (BER) is the most common. 5',8-cyclo-2'-deoxyadenosine (cdA) is a tandem lesion that is removed by the Nucleotide Excision Repair (NER) mechanism.

In this study there were investigated the changes in surface marker CD44 in human erythrocytes exposed to cryoprotective media, as well as the impact of oxidative modification of membrane-cytoskeleton proteins on the CD44 characteristics under the changed physico-chemical parameters of the cellular environment. Glycerol, DMSO, sucrose, and PEG-1500 were shown to cause a decrease in CD44 expression level and amount of CD44-positive cells during prolonged exposure erythrocytes with them. That may reflect subtle adjustments in the system of protein-protein interactions in erythrocyte membrane-cytoskeleton complex, which may affect the stability of cells during cryopreservation.

Enteroviruses (EVs) are small naked single-stranded positive RNA viruses (Picornaviridae) of approximately 7,400 nucleotides divided in four species (HEV A-D) and including 120 serotypes. EVs are common human pathogens, transmitted through fecal-oral and respiratory routes. Although the majority of EV infections remains asymptomatic (90 %), these viruses are considered as one of the most common causes of acute viral illnesses in immunocompetent pediatric and adult subjects.
