A 77-year-old man underwent coronary artery angiography quite well. However, several attempts were required to pass the pigtail catheter across a calcified stenotic aortic valve. On return to the floor, motor aphasia and right hemiparesis developed and improved steadily within a few days. Computed tomography (CT) of the head revealed a calcific density in the left middle cerebral artery. The authors believe the calcific plaque originated from the calcified aorta and aortic valve. The patient was discharged within 48 hours with minimal neurological signs. Spontaneous calcified emboli to cranial vessels from calcific aortic stenosis or other sources are rare. CT detection of a calcific plaque in a cranial vessel following coronary vessel catheterization is well documented in this patient.

Deproteinized Bovine Bone Mineral With Collagen for Anterior Maxillary Ridge Augmentation: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Clin Implant Dent Relat Res

February 2025

Department of Implantology, The Affiliated Hospital of Stomatology, School of Stomatology, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effects of deproteinized bovine bone mineral with collagen (DBBMC) combined with deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) on facial alveolar bone augmentation in the anterior maxillary region.

Materials And Methods: Patients receiving dental implant placement with simultaneous lateral bone augmentation using DBBM (control group) or DBBMC combined with DBBM (test group) were included in the study. The radiographic assessment of facial alveolar bone, such as facial horizontal bone thickness (FHBT), facial vertical bone level (FVBL), and square of facial bone (SFB), was taken by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Background: Current diagnostic imaging modalities have limited ability to differentiate between malignant and benign pancreaticobiliary disease, and lack accuracy in detecting lymph node metastases. F-Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) PET/CT is an imaging modality used for staging of prostate cancer, but has incidentally also identified PSMA-avid pancreatic lesions, histologically characterized as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). This phase I/II study aimed to assess the feasibility of F-PSMA PET/CT to detect PDAC.

Introduction: Stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) is a major cause of mortality during the acute phase of stroke. The ADS score is widely used to predict SAP risk but does not include 24-h non-contrast computed tomography-Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (NCCT-ASPECTS) or red cell distribution width (RDW). We aim to evaluate the added prognostic value of incorporating 24-h NCCT-ASPECTS and RDW into the ADS score and to develop a novel prediction model for SAP following thrombolysis.

Asymptomatic lung abscess of aspergillus in a female without previous lung diseases or immunocompromise: a case report.

BMC Infect Dis

January 2025

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Beijing Youan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing, 100069, China.

Background: Chronic pulmonary abscess usually results from bacterial or mycobacterium infection, but rarely from aspergillosis. Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis is usually found in a person with structural lung disease or immunocompromise. Here, we report a case of chronic lung abscess of aspergillosis without immunocompromise, structural lung diseases or even clinical symptoms.

Non-traumatic lumbar spondylolysis with contralateral pedicle and lamina fracture: a case report and review of the literature.

BMC Musculoskelet Disord

January 2025

Spine Center, Department of Orthopedics, Shanghai Changzheng Hospital, Second Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University, No.415 Feng Yang Road, Shanghai, 200003, China.

Lumbar spondylolysis of a single lumbar vertebra with a fracture of the pedicle on the opposite side, as well as fractures of both pedicles and bilateral spondylolysis, have been extensively reported in the literature. These cases are commonly linked to factors such as trauma, sports activities, and spinal surgeries. We report a unique case of a unilateral lumbar spondylolysis with a fracture on the opposite side including the pedicle and lamina.
