Choline and human nutrition.

Choline is crucial for sustaining life. It modulates the basic signaling processes within cells, is a structural element in membranes, and is vital during critical periods in brain development. Choline metabolism is closely interrelated with the metabolism of methionine and folate. We believe that the normal human diet provides sufficient choline to sustain healthy organ function. However, vulnerable populations may become choline deficient, including the growing infant, the pregnant or lactating woman, the cirrhotic, and the patient fed intravenously. Further studies of choline requirements in these groups are required.

Three choline chloride (ChCl)-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) as a new type of green solvents were used for the ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) of bioactive compounds from Mentha spicata L. DES containing ChCl and malonic acid (MalA) was selected as the most promising, providing a more effective extraction of antioxidants from spearmint. Response surface methodology (RSM) and a Box-Behnken design (BBD) with three variables, ChCl:MalA molar ratio, water content (WC) in DES, and extraction time (t), were implemented for optimizing the extraction conditions.

In this study, 34 deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were successfully prepared for the extraction of proanthocyanidin from Rhodiolae Crenulatae Radix et Rhizomes. The extraction process was optimized using single factor exploration and Box-Behnken design-response surface analysis. The extraction rate was significantly improved when the molar ratio of choline chloride to 1,3-propanediol was 1:3.

Background: The study aimed to overview radiopharmaceuticals used for the nuclear medicine (NM) imaging of prostate cancer (Pca) since the first mentions in the literature up to recent reports, with the special focus on positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) radiotracers.

Materials And Methods: We found over 3500 articles discussing the role of PET-CT in Pca patients' management published within 1990-2023. We summarized the past and present interests of the Authors when the Pca diagnostic imaging and the use of radiotracers in Pca diagnosis are considered.

Deficiency of hepatokine orosomucoid1 aggravates NAFLD progression in mice.

Orosomucoid (ORM) is an important hepatokine that regulates metabolism. Previous report showed that isoform ORM2 but not ORM1 could downregulate lipogenic genes and ameliorate hepatic steatosis in obese mice, thereby categorizing ORM2 as a promising candidate for therapeutic intervention in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, our previous studies found that mice lacking ORM1 gradually developed an obese phenotype with severe hepatic steatosis at the age of 24 weeks.

Water-based green deep eutectic solvent: Application in liquid-liquid microextraction of trace bisphenol A in edible oils.

In this study, tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBAC), tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), and choline chloride (ChCl) were innovatively applied in the liquid-liquid microextraction (LLME) of bisphenol A (BPA) from edible oil by forming water-based deep eutectic solvent (WDES). The presence of water is not only used in the synthesis of WDES, but also modulates the viscosity of DES and improve its diffusion and mass transfer properties. Several crucial parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were examined, including the type and amount of WDES and the extraction time.
