Classical mictional cytology (MC) has a series of widely recognized limitations for the diagnosis and follow-up of surface vesical carcinoma (SVC). A prospective study was conducted in 171 patients with suspected signs and symptoms or a background of SVC using cystoscopy, MC and vesical lavage cytology (LC). Overall sensitivity was 98.8%, 45.4% and 66.6% respectively. LC showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) when compared to MC in suspected disease with no SVC background, and follow-up with endovesical prophylaxis.

Fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (f-HP) is an interstitial lung disease in which various antigens in susceptible individuals may play a pathogenetic role. This study evaluates the role of transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in identifying a UIP-like pattern and its association with fibrosis progression. We conducted a multicentre retrospective cohort study of patients diagnosed with f-HP who underwent BAL and TBLC between 2011 and 2023.

Objectives: Although curative resection for synchronous peritoneal carcinomatosis has been reported to improve prognosis, cases with positive intraoperative lavage cytology have not been reported. In this study, we investigated the prognostic value of potentially curative resection based on colorectal cancer and lavage cytology positivity in patients with synchronous peritoneal carcinomatosis.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 72 patients who underwent intraoperative lavage cytology and one-stage potentially curative resection of primary and metastatic lesions (lavage cytology-positive, n = 21; lavage cytology-negative, n = 51) between July 2004 and December 2019.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) causes significant economic losses in the global swine industry due to its high genetic diversity and different virulence levels, which complicate disease management and vaccine development. This study evaluated longitudinal changes in the immune cell composition of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and the clinical outcomes across PRRSV strains with varying virulence, using techniques including single-cell transcriptomics. In highly virulent infection, faster viral replication results in an earlier peak lung-damage time point, marked by significant interstitial pneumonia, a significant decrease in macrophages, and an influx of lymphocytes.

This study aimed to explore the diagnostic value of the two cytology techniques, including liquid-based cytology of mammary ductal lavage fluid and nipple discharge smear cytology, in the intraductal lesions in patients with pathological nipple discharge (PND). This retrospective analysis included 119 patients with PND who underwent surgical treatment. At the same time, they all underwent fiberoptic ductoscopy (FDS), nipple discharge smear cytology and liquid-based cytology of ductal lavage fluid before surgery.

Diffuse interstitial lung diseases (ILD) include conditions with identifiable causes such as chronic eosinophilic pneumonia (CEP), sarcoidosis (SAR), chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (CHP), and connective tissue disease-associated interstitial pneumonia (CTD), as well as idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) of unknown origin. In non-IIP diffuse lung diseases, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid appearance is diagnostic. This study examines lymphocyte subsets in BAL fluid and peripheral blood of 56 patients with diffuse ILD, excluding idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), who underwent BAL for diagnostic purposes.
