A preliminary ex vivo diffusion tensor imaging study of distinct aortic morphologies.

J Anat

January 2025

Trinity Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland.

Changes in the microstructure of the aortic wall precede the progression of various aortic pathologies, including aneurysms and dissection. Current clinical decisions with regards to surgical planning and/or radiological intervention are guided by geometric features, such as aortic diameter, since clinical imaging lacks tissue microstructural information. The aim of this proof-of-concept work is to investigate a non-invasive imaging method, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), in ex vivo aortic tissue to gain insights into the microstructure.

To investigate the effects of long non-coding RNA KLHL7-AS1 (LncRNA KLHL7-AS1) on the proliferation and apoptosis of nucleus pulposus cells under oxidative stress and its mechanisms. Human nucleus pulposus cells (HUM-iCell-s012) were divided into 4 groups, and unoxidized nucleus pulposus cells were transfected with an empty pcDNA vector (pcDNA-control) to serve as the blank control group. Based on previous studies on oxidative stress-induced nucleus pulposus cell senescence and preliminary experiments, oxidative stress was induced by treating nucleus pulposus cells with 400 μmol/L HO.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia and pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) by percutaneous transcatheter ablation is its pivotal treatment. Nowadays, several techniques using different energy sources are used, such as radiofrequency (RF), cryoablation and laser ablation. A new technology that combines the strengths of different techniques has been developed, in particular having both the speed of one-shot techniques and the selectivity and precision of point-by-point RF: the RF balloon (RFB).

Background: Mobile health apps can boost treatment adherence and support disease management at home. The Atopic App and web-based Atopic School patient education program offer a chance to enhance adherence to atopic dermatitis (AD) management.

Objective: We aim to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of the Atopic App mobile health intervention in the managing of AD in children.

To investigate the potential of activated carbon from palm kernel shell waste for Tc-radiolabeled nanocarbon aerosol, a new production technology for carbon-based Tc-radioaerosol from such a waste was developed. Treated-palm shell charcoal (t-PSC) was prepared by hydrothermal method to increase the surface area, followed by Tc radiolabelling optimization. The optimal Tc radiolabeling conditions resulted in an adsorption capacity of 21.
