A randomized prospective study of antibiotic prophylaxis using a single dose of either cefoxitin or piperacillin is presented. The trial was carried out in Al Ain Hospital in the period 1989-1992 on 250 adult patients with non-perforated appendicitis. One group (124 patients) received 2 g cefoxitin, the other group (126 patients) 2 g piperacillin. Antibiotics were administered intravenously in the operating theatre immediately before surgery. Wound infection occurred in three patients, 2.4% of the cefoxitin group and in five patients (4%) of the second group (with no significant difference). The commonest infecting organisms were Escherichia coli (5 out of 8). Mean hospital stay for patients with wound infection was 15 days (range 12-21) compared with 6 days, (range 4-8) for non-infected cases. Prophylactic cefoxitin or piperacillin were each therefore similarly effective in minimizing the rate of wound infections in patients with non-perforated appendicitis.

Background: Zoledronate prevents fractures in older women when administered every 12 to 18 months, but its effects on bone density and bone turnover persist beyond 5 years. Whether infrequent zoledronate administration would prevent vertebral fractures in early postmenopausal women is unknown.
Methods: We conducted a 10-year, prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving early postmenopausal women (50 to 60 years of age) with bone mineral density T scores lower than 0 and higher than -2.
Prcis: Trabecular cutting minimally invasive glaucoma surgery like bent ab interno needle goniectomy (BANG) when performed in baseline aqueous angiography identified low aqueous humor outflow regions, results in greater success of intraocular pressure reduction.
Purpose: To study the efficacy of Bent Ab Interno Needle Goniectomy (BANG) in high versus low aqueous humor outflow (AHO) regions as determined by Aqueous Angiography(AA) in patients with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).
Methods: A prospective, single-centre, pilot, randomized control trial recruited 30 eyes of 30 patients of POAG and visually significant cataract (45-80 y) and were randomised into two groups ("A": BANG performed in the high-flow regions and "B": BANG performed in the low-flow regions) of 15 each.

Introduction: The use of corticosteroid injections for short-term pain relief for knee osteoarthritis can have deleterious adverse effects. Amniotic tissue has shown promise in vitro; therefore, this study compared a morcellized injectable amniotic tissue allograft to corticosteroid injection.
Methods: Eighty-one patients with symptomatic severe knee osteoarthritis (Kellgren-Lawrence grade 3 to 4) were prospectively randomized to either a double-blinded single injection of BioDRestore (Integra LifeSciences; n = 39) or triamcinolone acetonide (n = 42).

Background: Compared with direct linear resection, the triangular flap insertion method is a correction method that purportedly reduces the incision tension of dog ears deformity. Randomized clinical trials comparing these 2 methods seem to be limited or absent.
Objective: A randomized study was planned to compare the cosmetic effect and scar in the defect area between the triangular flap insertion method and direct linear resection in the repair of dog ear deformities after the suture of the facial circular defect.

Background: To study the efficacy and safety of Polyethylene glycolated recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (PEG-rhG-CSF) in the prevention of neutropenia during concurrent chemoradiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).
Methods: This is a single-center, prospective, randomized controlled study conducted from June 1, 2021, to October 31, 2022 on patients diagnosed with locally advanced NPC. Participants were divided into an experimental group and a control group.
