[Substitution of soft tissue defects on the lower leg and foot in septic cases].

Published: May 1994

After the spontaneous epithelialisation of the defects of soft parts so called unstable scars remain which, because of ulceration, are sources of infection, endangering both soft parts and bones. Substitution with soft tissues of adequate blood supply enables the complete sanation of the septic foci and by this the rapid healing of the patient with full function. Beside this a better cosmetic result can be achieved. In septic environment, if possible, local muscle flaps and free flaps are used, depending on the extent and localization of the defect. Experiences, gained in these operations are described.

African eggplant (Solanum aethiopicum gilo group) is a nutritious vegetable widely commercialized in Ghana. In the 2021 planting season (May-July), collar rot symptoms were observed on African eggplant on a farm at Domeabra, Legon, and Okumaning in the Central (N5° 48' 11″, W1° 26' 48″), Greater Accra (N5° 39' 34″, W0° 11' 34″) and Eastern (N6° 8' 34″, W0° 55' 59″) regions of Ghana, respectively. Disease incidence was 8-15% in the different farms.

Hyperelastic materials are extensively incorporated in medical implants and microelectromechanical systems due to their large, elastic, recoverable strains. However, their mechanical properties are sensitive to processing parameters that may lead to inconsistent characterization. Various test setups have been employed for characterizing hyperelastic materials; however, they are often costly.

Direct ink writing is a 3D printing method that is compatible with a wide range of structural, elastomeric, electronic, and living materials, and it continues to expand its uses into physics, engineering, and biology laboratories. However, the large footprint, closed hardware and software ecosystems, and expense of commercial systems often hamper widespread adoption. This work introduces a compact, low-cost, multimaterial, and high-throughput direct ink writing 3D printer platform with detailed assembly files and instructions provided freely online.

High-latitude ocean basins are the most productive on earth, supporting high diversity and biomass of economically and socially important species. A long tradition of responsible fisheries management has sustained these species for generations, but modern threats from climate change, habitat loss, and new fishing technologies threaten their ecosystems and the human communities that depend on them. Among these species, Alaska's most charismatic megafaunal invertebrate, the red king crab, faces all three of these threats and has declined substantially in many parts of its distribution.

The use of deformable materials in 3D printing has allowed for the fabrication of intricate soft robotics prototypes. Polyjet technology, with its ability to print multiple materials in a single print, has been popular in creating such designs. Vero and Agilus, the commercial materials provided by Polyjet, possess shape memory properties, making Polyjet ideal for high-precision and transformable applications.
