The purpose of the performed studies was finding the answer to the question: what is the function of hypophyseal-thyroid axis in patients admitted to hospital due to atrial fibrillation? Apart from cognitive premises, the work has also a practical aspect.

This article relates the life, career and main scientific achievements of a pioneer in neuroendocrinology and French cell biology research, Mrs Andrée Tixier-Vidal, who passed away in December 2021. After her first works on hypophyseal-thyroid neuroendocrine axis, in birds then in mammals, Andrée Tixier-Vidal devoted herself then her group at the College of France to the histophysiological study of adenohypophysis and namely of prolactin (PRL) cells. Using in vitro models of organotypic cultures and cultures of GH3 cells, she described up to ultrastructural level the secretory process of PRL and its regulation by TRH.

Background: Ischemic stroke is a major cause of premature death and chronic disability worldwide, and individual variation in functional outcome is strongly influenced by genetic factors. Neuroendocrine signaling by the hypothalamic-hypophyseal-thyroid axis is a critical regulator of post-stroke pathogenesis, suggesting that allelic variants in thyroid hormone (TH) signaling can influence stroke outcome.
Aim: To examine associations between acute ischemic stroke (AIS) outcome and allelic variants of the TH metabolizing enzymes deiodinase type 1-3 (DIO1-3) and membrane transporting organic anion polypeptide C1 (OATP1C1).

Cushing's syndrome (CS) may alter the performance of the hypothalamic-hypophyseal-thyroid axis. We searched for a relationship between hypercortisolism and primary thyroid disorders. The medical records of 40 patients with CS were retrospectively examined.

Cyanobacteria are the primary biomass producers and some species synthesize remarkable amounts of secondary metabolites, the so-called cyanotoxins. Several reports deal with the most common cyanotoxins, microcystins (MCs), and their effects on fishes but only a few studies investigated a natural exposure to MCs and limited information is available concerning the further aquatic vertebrate class, amphibians. In the present study, Xenopus laevis tadpoles at stage 52 (Nieuwkoop and Faber, 1994) were exposed for 1, 3, 7, and 21 days to diets containing lyophilized cyanobacterial biomass without and with microcystin-LR (MC-LR) at concentrations of 42.

The Irkutsk girls and boys (the Caucasians) made the comparison groups. In tof boys the activation of hypophyseal-thyroid system and activity increase of lipoprotein spectrum of blood serum was established.
