An in situ hybridization method was used to estimate the proenkephalin (PENK) and prodynorphin (PDYN) mRNA levels in the brain of epileptic 6-month-old WAG/Rij rats in comparison with non-epileptic: 3-month-old WAG/Rij rats, 3-month-old ACI rats and 6-month-old ACI rats. The epileptic rats had a significantly higher level of PENK mRNA in the striatum as compared to non-epileptic controls. The PDYN mRNA level was significantly elevated only in the hippocampus of epileptic rats, whereas age- or strain-related changes in the striatal and cortical PDYN mRNA levels were found in both epileptic and non-epileptic rats. The changes in the biosynthetic activity of endogenous opioid peptide systems may be important for the occurrence of epileptic discharges in these animals.

Deer mice provide a valuable naturally occurring animal model for investigating pathophysiological mechanisms underlying repetitive behaviors. Prior investigations using this model have identified abnormalities in the cortico-basal ganglia circuitry, including alterations within the indirect pathway and levels of endogenous opioids in the frontal cortex. In this study, the behaviors of n = 7 mice were quantified, and their brains were sectioned.

A major challenge for the treatment of alcohol use disorder (AUD) is relapse to alcohol use, even after protracted periods of self-imposed abstinence. Stress significantly contributes to the chronic relapsing nature of AUD, given its long-lasting ability to elicit intense craving and precipitate relapse. As individuals transition to alcohol dependence, compensatory allostatic mechanisms result in insults to hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function, mediated by corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), which is subsequently hypothesized to alter brain reward pathways, influence affect, elicit craving, and ultimately perpetuate problematic drinking and relapse vulnerability.

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) of "Zusanli" (ST36) and "Sanyinjiao" (SP6) on cancer pain and concomitant negative emotion in cancer pain model mice, and to explore its molecular mechanisms in the basolateral amygdala (BLA) by using transcriptomics techniques.
Methods: C57BL/6 mice were randomized into sham operation, model and EA groups, with 10 mice in each group. The cancer pain model was established by injecting PBS suspension containing Lewis lung cancer cells into the femur.
