The polyamine spermine is a flexible linear teraamine found in bacteria and eukaryotes, and in all known cases is synthesized from triamine spermidine by addition of an aminopropyl group acquired from decarboxylated S-adenosylmethionine (dcAdoMet). We have now identified in bacteria a second biosynthetic route for spermine based on the formation of carboxyspermine from spermidine, dependent on aspartate β-semialdehyde (ASA). This route also produces thermospermine from spermidine via carboxythermospermine.

Objectives: This study aimed to demonstrate real-world use of the Making Electronic Data More Available for Research and Public Health (MedMorph) Reference Architecture (RA) for automated exchange of hepatitis C-related data for public health surveillance and research using Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR).
Methods: Pilot participants included a public health authority (PHA), research organization (RO), clinical sites, and electronic health record (EHR) vendors. The RA was tested for hepatitis C public health surveillance and research data exchange.

an invasive basidiomycete fungal pathogen, causes one of the most prevalent, life-threatening diseases in immunocompromised individuals and accounts for ~19% of AIDS-associated deaths. Therefore, understanding the pathogenesis of and its interactions with the host immune system is critical for developing therapeutics against cryptococcosis. Previous studies demonstrated that cells lacking polyphosphate (polyP), an immunomodulatory polyanionic storage molecule, display altered cell surface architecture but unimpaired virulence in a murine model of cryptococcosis.

Chemical and biological properties of a novel 1,4-naphtoquinone-chromene derivative synthesised from perillaldehyde, major compound of essential oil were evaluated. The obtained product was efficiently prepared through a tandem hemisynthesis reaction under environmentally friendly conditions (solvent-free, moderate temperature) Knoevenagel condensation and Michael addition reactions, using 4-pyrolidinopyridine organobase as a catalyst. The structure of newly synthesised product ( was characterised using FTIR,H,C and 2D NMR spectroscopy.
