The gene encoding the human glucagon receptor, including several kb of upstream sequence, was isolated from a bacteriophage lambda FIX II library constructed from human placental DNA. We report here the novel sequence of the 5' flanking region of the gene, the identification of a previously unreported intron of 5 kb, and the identification of the transcription start point of the glucagon receptor-specific transcript, which estimates the length of the first exon to be 300 bp.

The folding of the guanine repetitive region in the telomere unit into G-quadruplex (G4) by drugs has been suggested as an alternative approach for cancer therapy. Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and chloroquine (CQ) are two important drugs in the trial stage for cancer. Both drugs can induce the folding of telomere-guanine-rich sequences into G4 even in the absence of salt.

Background: High molecular weight kininogen (HMWK), encoded by the kininogen-1 (KNG1) gene, is a multifunctional glycoprotein closely associated with the initiation of blood coagulation, tumor growth, and other pathological processes.
Objective: We conducted a study on the clinical phenotype, genetic mutations, and molecular pathogenesis of a female patient with uterine leiomyosarcoma, who presented with HMWK deficiency and an isolated prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT).
Methods: Clinical phenotyping was conducted through APTT mixing studies, quantitative assessments of intrinsic coagulation factor activities, antigen levels of HMWK, and thromboelastography.

Foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), the causative agent of the foot-and-mouth disease of cattle population possesses a rapid evolutionary rate. In Bangladesh, the first circulation of the O/ME-SA/SA-2018 lineage as a novel sublineage, MYMBD21 was reported from our laboratory. The first whole genome sequence of an isolate, BAN/MY/My-466/2021 (shortly named My-466) of the SA-2018 lineage is characterized and represented in this study.

In this study, I report an unexpected case of a Holstein calf that developed horns even though the sire was homozygous and the dam was heterozygous for polledness. After verifying and confirming the correct parentage, the parents and offspring were genotyped with the Illumina EuroG_MD BeadChip and the SNPs in the polled region on chromosome 1 were evaluated. In addition, the father was sequenced with next generation sequencing to identify possible, previously unknown variants.

Antibiotic-resistant infections are a pressing clinical challenge. Plasmids are known to accelerate the emergence of resistance by facilitating horizontal gene transfer of antibiotic resistance genes between bacteria. We explore this question in Acinetobacter baumannii, a globally emerging nosocomial pathogen responsible for a wide range of infections with a worrying accumulation of resistance, particularly involving plasmids.
