The potential for bidirectional promoter activity of the human PDGF-A chain gene.

Published: December 1994

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a heterodimeric glycoprotein consisting of A and B chains. A functional promoter had been identified in the 5' flanking region of the human PDGF-A chain gene. We found that the PDGF-A chain promoter region possesses the potential for bidirectional activity. This bidirectional promoter activity is influenced by the 5'-untranslated region (5'-UTR) and serum concentration. The 5'-UTR may regulate expression of the PDGF-A chain by transcription in the opposite direction.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of auraptene (AUR) treatment in forms of free and encapsulated in niosome nanoparticles by investigating the mRNA expression level of vascular endothelium growth factor (VEGF)-A and platelet-derived growth factors (PDGFs) in human retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cell line.

Methods: Niosome nanocarriers were produced using two surfactants Span 60 and Tween 80. RPE cell line was treated with both free AUR and niosome-encapsulated.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is increasingly recognized as a common condition in the general population and causes significant OSA-associated morbidities including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events such as cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) and stroke.

Methods: In this study, using sensitive ELISA immunoassays, we measured subset of endothelial/vascular and inflammatory biomarkers as well as neurofilament light chain (NfL), a sensitive marker for neuroaxonal injury, using plasma from OSA patients post-stroke (Acute Cerebral Infarction (ACI), N = 26) to determine their usefulness as potential prognostic markers in disease progression.

Results: Our results showed significantly increased plasma TNFα and NfL concentrations and decreased concentrations of platelet derived growth factor (PDGF-AA) in post-stroke OSA patients with more severe white matter hyperintensities (WMHs).

Pulsed electrical stimulation (PES) is known to affect cellular activities. We previously found PES to human dermal fibroblasts (HFs) promoted platelet-derived growth factor subunit A (PDGFA) gene expression, which enhanced proliferation. In this study, we investigated PES effects on fibroblast collagen production and differentiation into myofibroblasts.

evaluation of the antitumor activity of axitinib in canine mammary gland tumor cell lines.

J Vet Sci

January 2024

Laboratory of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Department of Veterinary Clinical Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, Seoul National University, Seoul 08826, Korea.

Background: Axitinib, a potent and selective inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor (VEGFR) tyrosine kinase 1,2 and 3, is used in chemotherapy because it inhibits tumor angiogenesis by blocking the VEGF/VEGFR pathway. In veterinary medicine, attempts have been made to apply tyrosine kinase inhibitors with anti-angiogenic effects to tumor patients, but there are no studies on axitinib in canine mammary gland tumors (MGTs).

Objectives: This study aimed to confirm the antitumor activity of axitinib in canine mammary gland cell lines.

PDGF-AA loaded photo-crosslinked chitosan-based hydrogel for promoting wound healing.

Key Laboratory of Biomaterials of Guangdong Higher Education Institutes, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Jinan University, Guangzhou 510632, China. Electronic address:

Chitosan-based hydrogels are considered to be ideal materials for promoting wound healing due to their nontoxic, biodegradable, and biocompatible properties. However, the weak mechanical strength, hemostatic properties, and adhesive properties of chitosan hydrogels limit their potential applications. In this study, we synthesized methacrylimide-chitosan (MAC)-4-arm polyethylene glycol (PEG)-dopamine (DMA) (MAC-PEG-DMA) hybrid hydrogels containing A-chain homodimers of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-AA) through one-pot photo-crosslinking.
