Tonsillectomy is a commonly performed procedure in pediatric ENT departments worldwide. To comprehensively evaluate the morbidity associated with tonsillectomy techniques and potential factors that impact outcomes The present study examined the entirety of pediatric patients who underwent tonsillectomy or adenotonsillectomy at CUCH during the years 2021 and 2022. Comprehensive scrutiny was conducted on admissions and readmission data, which encompassed hospital episode statistics, operative notes, patient questionnaires, and electronic records.

Pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common syndrome in children. While an adenotonsillectomy is effective for most, it may not be the treatment of choice for all, and possible alternative treatment options are briefly discussed herein. In obese children, in whom OSA is more prevalent, and has high rates of persistence after surgery, weight loss interventions may be recommended.

Objective: To determine if perioperative administration of dexmedetomidine affects postoperative fluid intake in tonsillectomy patients.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed at University Medical Center, Texas Tech Health Science Center, Lubbock, Texas. The study identified 534 patients within the last five years who met the criteria.

Obstructed breathing is the most common indication for tonsillectomy in children. Although tonsillectomy is performed frequently worldwide, the surgery is associated with a number of significant complications such as bleeding and respiratory failure. Complication risk depends on a number of complex factors, including indications for surgery, demographics, patient comorbidities, and variations in perioperative techniques.
