A simple instrument for endoscopic laryngeal and pharyngeal surgery.

Published: March 1995

A simple suture instrument for endoscopic microlaryngeal surgery is presented. It is made from a common sewing machine needle that is soldered in a 25 cm pipe-like holder and is slightly bent near the point. The needle tip is so threaded that the thread can pierce through both edges of a wound following placement with an endoscopic tube. The thread is held by a forceps, the instrument withdrawn and the suture knotted. In practice, wounds can be sutured very quickly, easily and comfortable. An example of its application is use of the instrument to shorten significantly and simplify the performance of endoscopic arytenoidectomy.

Transabdominal preperitoneal patch plasty (TAPP) versus total extraperitoneal patch plasty (TEP) are surgical techniques commonly used to treat inguinal hernia. However, studies indicate that both procedures may lead to significant complications, particularly gastrointestinal complications, some of which can be life-threatening. We statistically analyzed the complications caused by adult inguinal hernia patients admitted from 2018 to 2022.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction aims to improve knee stability and range of motion. The AperFix system consists of polymer components, and fixed-loop fixation is an established endoscopic technique. Our aim in this study was to compare the long-term clinical and radiological results of AperFix and fixed-loop fixation and to prove that the long-term results of the AperFix fixation method are at least as good as those of the fixed loop device.

Objective: The application of artificial intelligence (AI) in health care has led to a surge of interest in surgical process modeling (SPM). The objective of this study is to investigate the role of deep learning in recognizing surgical workflows and extracting reliable patterns from datasets used in minimally invasive surgery, thereby advancing the development of context-aware intelligent systems in endoscopic surgeries.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of articles related to SPM from 2018 to April 2024 in the PubMed, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and IEEE Xplore databases.

Purpose: To assess differences in safety and efficacy between 24 and 18 Fr pneumatic balloon dilators for percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) of renal stones between 10 and 20 mm.

Methods: Patients were randomized to dilatation with a 24 Fr (Group A) versus 18 Fr (Group B) Ultraxx pneumatic dilator (Cook Medical). In all procedures percutaneous puncture was performed under ultrasound guidance.
