Metastasis stands as one of the most prominent prognostic factors in osteosarcoma. Over 70% of metastatic osteosarcoma occurrences affect the lung. Nonetheless, to date, there has been a scarcity of research addressing predictive factors for lung metastasis risk in osteosarcoma.

Background: Spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) has been reported to be associated with osteosarcoma lung metastases, but the computed tomography (CT) characteristics of lung metastases in patients with pneumothorax have not been comprehensively described. The study aimed to describe the CT characteristics of lung metastases in patients with osteosarcoma and to identify factors associated with SP.
Methods: This study comprised 123 patients diagnosed with osteosarcoma lung metastasis at our hospital between January 2016 and December 2021.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules that are present in all cell types and bodily fluids and are commonly dysregulated in cancer. miRNAs in cancer have been studied by measuring levels in cell lines, tumour tissues, and in circulation; however, no study has specifically investigated miRNA expression in patient-matched samples across all three sample types. Canine osteosarcoma is a well-established spontaneously occurring model of human osteosarcoma for which matched samples are available.

The PD-1/PDL-1 immune checkpoint inhibitors revolutionized cancer treatment, yet osteosarcoma remains a therapeutic challenge. In some types of cancer, PD-1 receptor is not solely expressed by immune cells but also by cancer cells, acting either as a tumor suppressor or promoter. While well-characterized in immune cells, little is known about the role and interactome of the PD-1 pathway in cancer.

Interior bone-tissue regeneration and rapid tumor recurrence post-resection are critical challenges in osteosarcoma and other bone cancers. Conventional bone tissue engineering scaffolds lack inhibitory effects on bone tumor recurrence. Herein, multifunctional scaffolds (named DOX/PDA@CDHA) were designed through the spontaneous polymerization of Dopamine (PDA) on the surface of Calcium Deficient Hydroxyapatite (CDHA) scaffolds, followed by in situ loading of the chemotherapeutic drug Doxorubicin (DOX).
