Carbamazepine and amiodarone may often be used together, especially in countries where cardiomyopathies are common. In this study single doses of carbamazepine (400 mg) were given to patients with cardiac disease before and after one month of therapy with amiodarone, 400 mg daily. The kinetic profile of carbamazepine, its free fraction, and serum amiodarone, were measured at the two occasions. There was no statistically significant change in carbamazepine kinetics or free fraction, before and after the introduction of amiodarone. The concentrations of amiodarone after one month of therapy were low. It is suggested that the possible interaction in the hepatic metabolism was not demonstrated because amiodarone concentrations were not enough to inhibit carbamazepine metabolism.

Synergistic activation of persulfate by photothermal and solid catalysts is an effective method for degrading organic pollutants. However, the batch reaction mode not only fails to fully utilize photothermal, but also makes it hard to separate the solid catalysts from the reaction solution. In this work, a shallow continuous flow way of effluent was set up for synergistic activation of peroxydisulfate (PDS) by photothermal and FeS-loaded air-laid cloth (FeS-ALC).

Poor aqueous solubility of crystalline active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) restricts their bioavailability. Amorphous solid dispersions with biocompatible polymer excipients offer a solution to overcome this problem, potentially enabling a broader use of many drug candidate molecules. This work addresses various aspects of the design of a suitable combination of an API and a polymer to form such a binary solid dispersion.

This study extends a previously developed competitive modeling approach for predicting the adsorption of organic micropollutants (OMPs) on powdered activated carbon (PAC) in full-scale advanced wastewater treatment. The approach incorporates adsorption analysis for organic matter fractionation, assumes pseudo-first order kinetics and differentiates between fresh and partially loaded PAC through fraction segregation. Validation through full-scale measurement campaigns reveals successful model predictions of OMP removal, underestimating, however, diclofenac removals by 15-20%.

Water contamination with pharmaceuticals such as Carbamazepine (CBZ) presents a significant environmental challenge. This study investigates the use of activated carbon derived from waste date pits (DPAC) for the removal of CBZ from water. The impact of several parameters such as pH, temperature, CBZ concentration, and flow rate on the adsorption were assessed.
