Thermodynamic therapy (TDT) is a promising alternative to photodynamic therapy (PDT) by absorbing heat through thermosensitive agents (TSAs) to generate oxygen-irrelevant highly toxic free radicals. Therefore, TDT can be a perfect partner for photothermal therapy (PTT) to achieve efficient synergistic treatment of anoxic tumors using a single laser, greatly simplifying the treatment process and overcoming hypoxia limitations. However, the issues of how to improve the stability and delivery efficiency of TSAs still need to be addressed urgently.

Background/aims: Ophthalmology is an under-represented specialty in many medical school curriculums resulting in reduced confidence in medical students and clinicians when dealing with eye conditions. Our study evaluates the impact of a simulation-based education (SBE) workshop to train medical students in ophthalmology.
Methods: Second-year medical students were invited to participate in a two-day (eight-hour) simulation-based ophthalmology workshop.

Superhydrophobic surfaces are considered to be an effective method for anti-icing, but passive anti-icing alone is not as effective as it should be, so it is crucial to develop effective anti-icing techniques. In this study, a photothermal anti-icing structure with multienergy barriers was designed by combining active and passive anti-icing technologies and prepared by a three-step method of laser etching, hydrothermal growth of nanostructures, and chemical modification based on the Cassie-Baxter-Wenzel transition theory. The experimental results show that the static water contact angle of the prepared surface is up to 160°, the sliding angle is less than 3.

Activating the cGAS-STING pathway presents a promising strategy to enhance the innate immunity and combat the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. One key mechanism for triggering this pathway involves the release of damaged DNA fragments caused by nuclear DNA damage. However, conventional cGAS-STING agonists often suffer from limited nucleus-targeting efficiency and potential biotoxicity.
