Studying the blood cell morphology of marine mammals provides an opportunity to elucidate the physiological mechanisms of adaptive changes associated with the aquatic habitat that occur at the cellular level, as well as adaptations to changing environmental conditions and under various physiological and pathological processes. The Baikal seal [ (family Phocidae)] is endemic to the freshwater Lake Baikal, but comprehensive hematology data are not available. We studied the morphological features of blood cells of twelve clinically normal, adult Baikal seals ( = 6 males, = 6 females) from two oceanariums under professional care for eight years.

Corynosoma pseudohamanni Zdzitowiecki, 1984 (Polymorphidae) was described from the intestinal tract of 5 species of seals including the type and main host, the Weddell seal Leptonycotes weddellii (Lesson) in the South Shetlands, West Antarctica. Notothenia coriiceps was the primary paratenic host of 14 fish hosts reported in the original description. We describe excysted juveniles from the body cavity of the major paratenic host, Notothenia coriiceps Richardson collected off Galindez Island, Argentine Islands, West Antarctica for the first time.

Although it is not a new illness and has been around since the previous century, monkeypox later resurgence is fraught with difficulties. This study presents a novel approach of diagnosing monkeypox using artificial intelligence, which is called Effective Monkeypox Diagnosis Strategy (EMDS). Non-invasive ventilation has been used as a pre-oxygenation strategy for rapid sequence intubation in the emergency department and the intensive care unit, yet, limited research has examined its use in the transport setting. These case reports discuss the use of non-invasive ventilation via a Hamilton T1 ventilator (Hamilton Medical) during transport by an air medical crew for pre-oxygenation before intubation in two cases. In both cases, a non-invasive, bilevel-positive airway pressure mode with a backup rate was used to achieve adequate airway pressures while allowing for a two-handed seal by one EMS clinician as the other prepared the equipment and medications.

Novel probiotic bacteria discovery from free-ranging animals for the treatment of IBD in domestic pets can likely yield promising probiotic candidates.
