In an industrial pig production unit 20 sows were selected at random. All the sows had a puerperal disease in their anamnesis. The sows were divided in two groups consisting of ten sows each. Group 1 received Ampicillin per os (3 g per sow and day) four days a.p. and four days p.p. The majority of the sows showed a significant E. coli bacteriuria and non of the sows showed a significant Enterococcus bacteriuria prior to treatment. The development of puerperal disease was registered. The treated group showed less occurrence of disease compared to the control. Group 1 revealed significant (p < 0.05) less early postnatal losses than the untreated control. Group 1 showed better four weeks weaning weights as well. It is the authors opinion that sows having significant bacteriuria a.p. should be treated a.p. and p.p. before periparturient disease occurs.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of death in pregnant and peripartal women in western countries. Physiological changes during pregnancy can lead to cardiovascular complications in the mother; women with pre-existing heart disease may not tolerate these changes well, increasing their susceptibility to adverse cardiovascular outcomes during pregnancy. The aim of this study is to characterize pregnancy-induced changes in cardiac function, biomarker concentrations and cardiovascular outcomes in women with CVD during pregnancy at a tertiary care hospital in Germany.

Purpose: The study aimed to analyse the relationship of the rs4986790 locus of the TLR4 gene with the overall risk of preeclampsia, including both its early and late forms.
Methods: The study used standard genetic analysis methods such as DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and genotyping of the rs4986790 locus of the TLR4 gene to assess the association with the development of preeclampsia and peripartal stroke in 207 pregnant women from the southern regions of Kazakhstan from 2016 to 2022, of whom 103 had peripartal stroke on the background of preeclampsia (the main group) and 104 preeclampsia (comparative group).
Results: The results of the study demonstrate that the AG and AG + GG genotypes at the rs4986790 locus of the TLR4 gene are significantly associated with an increased risk of developing an early form of preeclampsia.

Introduction: In pregnancy-related atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (p-aHUS), transferring recommendations for treatment decisions from nonpregnant cohorts with thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) is difficult. Although potential causes of p-aHUS may be unrelated to inherent complement defects, peripartal complications such as postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) or (pre)eclampsia or Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes and Low Platelets (HELLP) syndrome may be unrecognized drivers of complement activation.
