Objectives: The objectives of this report were (1) to identify all cases of incisional bowel herniations noted after operative laparoscopy in 11 participating institutions and (2) to report the clinical details of such patients.
Study Design: A retrospective case review was performed.
Results: Nineteen cases of incisional bowel herniation were identified. The average age of the patients was 50.5 years. Initial laparoscopic procedures varied and included laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (six patients), laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy with lymphadenectomy (five patients), oophorectomy (two patients), adhesiolysis (two patients), myomectomy (two patients), lymphadenectomy alone (one patient), and ovarian cystectomy (one patient). The average time to reoperation was 8.5 days.
Conclusions: Incisional bowel herniation is a serious complication of operative laparoscopy. Herniations occur through ports > or = mm in size at both umbilical and extraumbilical sites. New techniques are needed to avoid this serious complication.

Recent findings suggest that combining mechanical bowel preparation (MBP) and preoperative oral antibiotics (OAs) decreases the risk of incisional surgical site infections (iSSIs) in colorectal surgery; however, this finding remains controversial. This study examined the efficacy of OAs and MBP in colorectal surgery using propensity score matching (PSM). : Between January 2015 and December 2020, 559 patients with colorectal tumors underwent MBP followed by colorectal surgery.

Data from the second quarter of 2014 to the third quarter of 2023 were collected, employing various signal mining methods such as Reporting Odds Ratio (ROR), Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR), Bayesian Confidence Propagation Neural Network (BCPNN), and Empirical Bayesian Geometric Mean (EBGM). The study gathered 14,753,012 reports of AEs, of which 46,726 were related to Vedolizumab.

Introduction: The acute presentation of parastomal hernia (PSH) can range from exacerbation of pain to life-threatening incarceration. Managing the acute PSH is challenging, particularly in the presence of concomitant midline incisional hernia. Most literature focuses on the outcomes of elective PSH repair.

Purpose: Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) frequently undergo multiple abdominal operations, which increase the risk of incisional hernia repair (IHR) and associated mesh-related complications. Patients with intra-abdominal fistulizing CD (FCD) may be more susceptible to mesh-related complications than patients with non-fistulizing CD (non-FCD). The primary objective was to evaluate the risk of reoperation due to mesh-related complications after IHR in patients with FCD and non-FCD.
